Manley Varimu vs. Pendulum ES8

I have the Varimu. But have been reading about the ES8 (Michael Brauer and others). Is the ES8 much different than the Manley?

Thanks,

Woods

Yes, they're very different. The Manley is much more colored, has a "thicker" sound, and is a recognizable sound everybody's heard. The ES-8 is lighter, more natural, more neutral, in general.

It's great for tracking, very transparent, ime, somewhat like the Cranesong STC-8, with a slightly softer release (no, I don't know what I mean by that). It's softer in some way. I sold mine and kept the Cranesong, though, as I felt it was a little better all around for the wide variety of music I record and mix. The STC-8 is also great for tracking, imo.
