Thread Starter | Creating his OWN Team!! Hi fellas! I would like to discuss about a subject that starting to concern me BIG TIME. I'm gonna tell you an example and maybe you guyz wil understand my point of view and what i wish to know: I want to know how do you guzy get to have a production TEAM that work with you and for you. Like a music producer at a certain time or point of your producing carreer, you happen that "gigs or contract" are coming IN so much that as ONE guy who does it all from (writing, arranging, recording etc.....), at a point you need people behind you right? To be able to get those contract and get them done in time. Example, take Hanz Zimmer, i mean he started alone until when things started to move on and pick up then he had to have a CREW behind him that he could TRUST and the JOB DONE. But still, HANZ is the GUY BEHIND or should i say the BRAIN. I think that i made my point and what i want to know is: How do you start or get to create your own CREW, where do you go to get those people (from recording Engineer etc...)that you can trust and that they will follow you in your adventure. And how do you PAY those people. If anyone have an idea or suggestion, please do not hesitate. Thank you so much!!

| I am not sure I get this - you pay them a portion of the money you make. unless you are extremely charismatic, nobody good is going to follow you on an "adventure" until you have the money coming in to pay them. No pay= no team. you can trust someone you are paying, because if they screw up, you don't hire them again. I have always found that once I have a budget at my disposal, finding the people I need is the easy part. I have been collecting business cards for years. I often know these people already, even with an obscure specialization, a little asking around usually turns up some likely candidates. |

| For me it was fairly straightforward. I'm a guitar-based producer, don't play keyboards very well, but a good buddy is an amazing keyboardist. So I asked him to join the team, and he did. I had a client who has a scary grasp of music theory (mine is somewhat shaky), coupled with an outstanding ability to play rhythm guitar and sing. So I put her on the team. My brother Kurt is a guitar tech to platinum selling bands like Godsmack, and I produce a lot of guitar-based music, so that one was a no-brainer. TEAM. More recently, I became friends with a fantastic recording engineer at one of Philly's best recording studios...and guess what? TEAM! Then, there's my lawyer/manager, whom I've known for over a decade. He watches my back. I don't need them all for every gig. They have other gigs, we're not tied together by contractual obligations. Everything's done on a handshake, and I pay them per-session. BUT potential clients can look at my team on the Curve website, and see that we've got all the potential bases covered. Team is everything. I would not dare try to go it alone in this business. |

Thread Starter | Absolutely Hey Curve! Absolutely right, no one will pretend to go in this business alone at a certain stage of his carreer. Hell no! I hear ya... And this is the way also i work. I got the network and if need piano or guitar or drums etc.. i called my team network guyz. I do this already but i wanted to know if other people here work differently or if there is Some Pro that saling big time albums and that have TOP 10 songs in the billboard , how do they work again? Just curious! Thank you all who respond |

| The most important team member for a Music producer is an engineer that can help make your ideas come to life and make your life easier in the studio. I've worked with a miliion producers(the top guys and bottomn feeders) over the years and teaming up with the right engineer will help you move quickly up the ladder. Most guys starting out don't think this way but the cats that have been around know. Working with the wrong guy can cost you mucho bucks. |

You have your network guyz, you know what to do, who to call for what application. That's what it's all about, man. You're doing it already. So what if you don't have "TOP 10 songs in the billboard" - YET. You're still young. Keep On Truckin' Baby! | |
