Question about the rme's sp/dif and using external converters

Hey guys i'm planning on getting the benchmark's ADC and DAC converters, so I'm just curious could i use my FF 800's to get the converter signals in and out via spdif I/O instead of Purchasing a card with AES or spdif. i just don't feel like selling the FF right now but i don't want to see it idle, plus if this could work it may save me some money. thank you for your time.

Sinewave.

Sinewave,
Did you ever get an answer on this? I was thinking of doing something similar, and I wanted to know if you have tried this yet.
