Need fellow slutz advice!!!!!!

What up slutz,
I play and record mostly punk/rock and trashy bluez. I use a Great River MP-2NV pre w/ AEA R84, SM57, Rode K2, Senn. 609, AKG 414, Peluso 22 47LE, SM7, AKG 451, Audix D6, AKG D112, CAD E-300, 350, 100, SM81, etc. for recording guitars, drums, bass, and vox. My main focus for this piece of gear is on guitars, drums, and bass. I need help on whether to go with a compressor next or an EQ.?? I want a 2 channel/stereo unit. For compressors, I'm either thinking of the Buzz Audio SOC 1.1 or 2 Distressors or a UA 1176.?? I need a compressor that is a "Swiss army knife", not a 1 trick pony. And for an EQ, I'm thinking of the Great River 2 channel EQ.?? I'm kind of leaning toward a compressor because it seems like I'd use it on more things than an EQ during tracking. I want a compressor that adds some color, but that can be transparent when needed, if that makes any sense. I'd like to keep it under $2,500. Please help this GAS affliction is drivin' me kraezzie. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Although Ive nver used them myself, I hear that those Great Rivers are bad-ass!! Been wanting to get one myself. For your compressors, go with the Distressors, but get the ones with the "British Mode", That little switch makes a BIG diffrence.

i know this is way UNDER your budget, but have you considered the Drawmer DL-241? Stereo comp/ expander with gates? those gates kick ass, too. still some of my favorites.

i think it's a HUGE bang for the buck. it's not going to give you anything really vibey, funky or gritty, but it certainly will do it's job well, and it does the clean thing pretty well, too.

i'd think it's definitely worth at least trying, and won't break the bank. you'll probably end up holding onto it for a long time - it's a good, reliable all-around workhorse that shouldn't dissappoint you, and will probably make you VERY happy a good chunk of the time : )

here's one priced a bit higher than what you can probably get one for.

and, another - better photos:

Good luck, and keep us posted

Its too tough a question to answer honestly.

You can easily get away without needing either when tracking.

When mixing you'll actually need both.

So what's the right answer?

Get both in your studio try them out and see what moves your gut the most.
