One microphone for this?

i want to record a male vocalist singing and playing acoustic guitar at the same time .He sings softly and sounds great clöse miked and his vocals are so linked to his guitar playing i,d like to put one great microphone up close as possible to get a big warm intimate sound that captures both guitar and voice. i thought to hire a u47 or possibly a Brauner VM1 though ive never heard this.......what do you think?his guitar is a sweet sounding Gibson j30
much obliged ...

I usually prefer to do that kind of thing with a stereo pair rather then one mic. Even if the mics aren't the same stereo will add some depth to the sound that you won't get from one mic.

All you need to make a record is a mic, some tape and maybe some bad reverb...

I think this is not an ideal situation for only one mic. If you need close proximity for the vocals, it may be hard to capture a good guitar sound.

But, if that is your only practical option, what I would try is putting the mic at about nose level aimed diagonally downward towards both the mouth and the guitar.

i would go with two fig8 mics for this job, this is the classical situation for this set-up.
my favs are c12 or u48 on fig8 for the voc and royer ribbon or c414eb for the guitar.
this is one set-up where i find dead acoustic to work better.
hope it helps.

Place a small diagphram condenser mic (perhaps an AT 4051 or even a 451) at the 12th fret pointing in at the sound hole. You've got to audition mic's any time you're dealing with a good singer so have a few large diagphram condensers and maybe one dynamic mic perhaps a (sm7) handy just in case.
