DPA 4011's to pad or not to pad?

When you guys have used these as overheads do you pad them????????

Don't ever pad any mic unless you absolutely have to. It affects the sound a bit. I personally don't like it.

4011's on OH shouldn't need a pad. If the drummer is hitting the cymballs so hard that you have to pad the mic, then the drummer needs to chill out a bit. No need to slam those things that hard.

I've never needed the pads on the 4011s. You do have to excersize the switches once in awhile though. The switches make intermittent noise if they're not moved occassionally.

I love these mics - among the best-sounding cardioids!!! Off-axis pickup is relatively uncolored, so they blend well with omnis.

I've never needed a pad on them. It's funny, I can't convince people around here (Dallas) that they're great mics. People just don't seem to get over 451's. Oh, well. Their loss.

I do like 451's also though. zing!
