Thread Starter | swapping a u87 innertube during a session? I am seriously thinking of buying an innertube mod for my vintage u87. i really like the sound of my 87 on many vocals, but am thinking that a tube mod may make the mic work for other vocalists that are too edgey with the stock u87. anyone with an innertube that can tell me if it would be crazy to swap the guts out on a regular basis? it sounds like a very quick process, but may be impractical or bad for the mic. also would i never have a need for the mic unmodded once i have a tubed version or are they really 2 different beasts? i guess my gefell um70's could fit the bill for the stock 87's. i appreciate any input on this one as i am torn on this one and only have one u87. |

| I have two Innertube kits for my 87's and the only time that they have been reverted to stock have been when I've rented one of the 87's to another studio for voice-over work. I always use them tubed. Besides being great on vocals and acoustic instruments they are amazing as drum overheads. |
