Vintage King 1073 Racks...Good Stuff???

I think I'm gonna go with a Vintage King rack for my 1073's since I'm getting my vintage 1073's from them. Anyone have any reasons why I should think about getting some elses rack? Any negative views on the Vintage King racks?

I have seen the VK racks in person and I think they look fantastic. If I were looking to rack up some Neve modules, VK is where I would look first. That said, I have not used them and cannot speak to their quality of construction/manufacture, reliability, or quality of the power supply(this would be my top concern when racking Neve modules), though I have no reason to expect anything but the best from VK. I'd say go for it.

Great place to buy Neve gear. I bought from Mike, also.

I'm sure their rack unit is excellent, but check Thrill's comments in other threads about the importance of using the Neve power supplies. I A/B'ed another brand of rack unit (not Vintage King) with reissue 1084's and the Neve rack unit was clearly better. And yes, more expensive. My thought is that if you spend that much money for the Neve pre/EQ's, you want the best possible power supply.

Again, to be clear, I have not A/B'ed Neve and Vintage King. So, you may want to do that.

Yeah, the power supply and wiring is where it is at. Other than that, a rack is a rack. Some are more asthetically pleasing than others but that is in the eye of the beholder. I like the way the Vintage King racks look, though I'm not in the market for Neve's or any pre's for that matter. It shouldn't be too hard to find out what kind of power supply is used in the VK rack in comparison to what Neve uses in it's rack. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same thing though.

First off I love VK. Mike rules and I buy 90% of my gear from them.
I have a VK 1073 rack with a pair of 1066's in it. But I recently got a Boutique rack that I have to say is better. The modules mount snd fit into the the Boutique rack better than my VK.

Also I think the electronics packaging is a better design with the boutique rack. They are the same price too around $900. Im surprised these are so much$$$. You could easily build a comparable power supply and rack for under $200 if you had the Time and the tools.

Allen,
When you say the Boutique was better, is that only in reference to the mounting and fit of the modules, or are you also speaking of a difference in sound qualities?

Well, I wasn't going to get into brands.............but Boutique was the brand I A/B'ed against the Neve rack. The Neve rack clearly won on sound. (Aside from the sound, it is also built like a fortress). Just one opinion.

You should demo each one. The power supply makes a big difference.
