Exclamation Calling on THRILL...FLETCHER...ROB... fellow slutz!

If any of you guys could spare 5 minutes on the phone with me today, I've got a few humble questions and advice I need to ask.

I hate to put myself in the lame position of having to put myself out there like this, but I respect your knowledge and need to bounce a few approaches for a studio set-up off you...

Please give me a call if you don't mind:

Cool Huh?

Sorry, what's the problem? I've already received a few really really great calls from extremely helpful people.

What is the point of your posts?

Lindell, I consistently find you to be not helpful, why do you bother to post on my threads if you don't want to contribute... uh oh, ya gonna kick me off now tough guy?

People have been really helpful and nice here. All I did was HUMBLY ask for help and to speak with someone in-person in detail.

Nice people. I was VERY grateful and gracious about their time.

What's with your attititude?

Nothing wrong with asking a question in my book. Better to ask than have your crap fall apart or lose a client.

gotta love it - it's like some people use these forums just to be bitches.

come on, lads. we can do better than that.
(obviously, i'm taking my medication today)

on the flip side, could you share some of your findings with us, DH?

i've been so lucky to get so much great advice from the cats here -
LONG LIVE GEAR SLUTZ.COM

it's always great to find out who's giving what advice,
in addition to being privy to the actual advice itself : )

that'd be mighty slutty of you

much obliged.

I've found IM and similar messaging programs to be nice for this sort of thing. Lot of people use 'em, and it allows guys to help you out in detail on their time, no phone charges, and gives them time to go take a leak/open a drink/let the dog out should they need to. Lower pressure, more informal.

Thumbs up I will be happy to share! :)

My question was more of a conversation regarding a console, recording approach and bigger picture stuff that would be hard to sum into one thread, but I will share as I learn. More than happy!

For now, my I'm looking at building a custom SSL 4000E console with Bruce at The Desk Doctor, who has been great, then have been asking about gear to compliment and offset a very particular work flow... for example, the generous and brilliant brains behind the wonderful PACIFICA pres gave some invaluable input! (You should also know he is quite the humanitarian on a side-topic, helping those who suffered from Katrina...good deeds indeed

Anyway, a few people have spoken wiith me and helped and as I consolidate the info, I'll post what sense I make of it all.

In other words, I'll be happy to help and share.

You know, I used to publish my voice mail number on the Web way back when, and I think I got five calls in four years. And only one of them was a crank call -- a hilarious, Steven Thrasher type crank call at that.

You really don't get as many calls as you would think.

However, you could be walking in the desert between Las Vegas and Victorville and if you even mumble your email address you're screwed.

Don't you see a private message indicator as soon as you log into GS?

You only see it if you actually log on -- I usually browse GS anonymously, only logging on if to respond or to check Members Only (i.e.: GS Secondhand Classifieds). In fact, I have a habit of never leaving a computer/cookie set to log on to ANYTHING automatically, esp. email. Especially these days...

Putting out the ph # for public consumption is a different issue, but I guess if you're logged on as an alias...you might consider editing it out of that post in a week or so -- that's my two cents. Although the audio salespeople publish their ph #'s as a matter of course, so WTF do I know.

Thumbs up Thank you guys :)

Thanks to ALL of you (ok, most Really.

I got some great info and am still talking out some good things, great support.

Long good PM from Thrill and even longer reply

Thoughtful call from Fletcher, I owe you a call back, thanks (respecting your hours.)

And as I previously said, great talks earlier today, and to someone else's point, I'll share any and all useful help...

Give what I get. Just wish I could offer as much as I ask. Sincerely.

Just so you know the reason for the lengthy or unconventional approach is that I'm working on finishing the next DIRTY HALO album and need some in-depth mixing/finishing help.

The last album did pretty damn well, but I would really like to do even better...although the label would just like it to be done!

Anyway, I feel I gained so much from this forum, I hope it shows on this release...

Now if I could just pursuade one of you true kung-fu masters to mix it instead of me!

(And for anyone who wants to bash my past album, you can always steal a peak on iTunes or walk into any old Tower Records... the site just went down to get ready for the next release...that's not a plug, you know I've never done that)

Thanks again, truly and with heart.

Andrews

Yeahm and thanks for your support as well. Ya know, I'm in NYC all the time...was JUST there. I should buy some of you "Right-coasters" a cup of coffee next time, maybe check out your cool studios...

Or if you find yourself on the beach in Santa Monica, let me do the same.

Peace,

Andrews

DIRTY HALO

Oh...info gleamed so far:

1: Always ask questions, even if ya take crap for it
2: I'm learning a lot about layering delaus, something I've always been hesitant to do, especially on vocals, but putting out a pre-delay, then using one type of center type ver (keeping the actual vocal track cloean and upfront), then using a different delay for the wider left/right vocal material.

Even if you are a "none delay" kind o' guy, the most subtle use of this techique gives a good polished or at least pulled-together feel (if polished is not yo thang!)

Info learned so far...and more, but head is realing so far

Honestly this is exactly what the PM system is made for. There is no need to clog the boards with these kinds of threads, since there will be little to no sharing of information for others to benefit from.

How is it an imposition to ask for a call? If someone doesn't feel like responding they just don't dial the number. If an engineer on this board does want to respond they can do so at their own convenience. Plus, telephone really is faster and better in a lot of ways, purely as a form of communication.

On the other hand, it is true that whatever advice/information Dirty Halo received is not shared with the rest of the board for the benefit of all. Which I always thought was one of the main reasons a board like this existed. If everyone said "give me a call" and then left a one sentence synopsis of the conversations here at Gearslutz, there would soon be nothing left to read.

Why so uptight, everyone? What would have taken more of your precious time: replying with meaningless criticism for Dirty Halo, or moving on to the next thread?

Easy, friends!
