Thread Starter | Home studio setup quick question...
The kind of music I make is similar in nature experimental wise as the guitar players virtuoso types out there i.e.(Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, bla, bla, bla). I just need help with what would work good mic pre wise for recording guitars of varying degrees of heavyness, anyone who's had experience I'd value your input. Have these equipment already: Mics -----> MD421----> U47------> MXL 67V--------> SM57 DSL100 & Carvin Legacy + Marshall 4X12 cabs G-Force DHP-55 TC Fireworks Here is a list of pre's I've picked but have not decided on so far: Chandler LTD2 Vintech 273 Portico 5042 API A2D Manley Single Mic Pre 1073DPD ADL600 Avalon 2022 Which one? Would be a good purchase being a guitar player? |

Then you can really know for sure. Asking on the internet is a good start, but really kind of useless other than just narrowing things down. I'll comment about your pre's but I may not be using the mics you have, so it may be a moot point. Chandler & Vintech - good! IMO, you want a class A type edgy sound with the pre for your application. Portico & Avalon - too clean & precise Manley & ADL - tubes. I don't think a tube pre should be your first choice for your application. API - always great. I don't know anything about the A2D though. Not as thick as the chandler or vintech though. (based on 512/312 experience) 1073DPD - ??? Don't know this one. hope that helps. Bill |
