Hey!

Any pointers about mixing and mastering for vinyl, what should be done different when when working with the CD format?

A good mix is a good mix in either format. Nothing really different to deal with, just focus on great tracking and mixing.

Watch that low-end and keep things in phase.

Sibilance and harsh high end frequencies can be an issue, so try to keep those in check when tracking and mixing,.. also having short sides of around 15- 18 minutes each at 33 1/3 rpm is preferred to having longer sides and provides for a louder and cleaner cut. Keeping low end frequencies around 150-200 more localized in the center works better for vinyl. .. and there's not really a need for brick wall limiting or very little.

when i did a vinyl release years ago the cutting plant told the label to keep no freq under 30Hz and keep enough headroom (-12dBFS) for the special vynil mastering (wich means building a glasmaster disk, not processing the audio for sound). This was for a 45RPM 7" single and it also could only contain max 6min of audio for each side.

i did sent them a 24bit 44.1kHz wav file for each side and they did do the rest.
