How to move a 36 IN Neve VR through 34" doorways?

Hi Folks,
I have a working, 36 Input Neve VRP, with right side patchbay, I have to move through 34" door ways to get it out of one studio and into another.

I dont want to pull it apart any further than needed, as its going back to work straight away.

I have removed all channels, but it seems I have to separate the the console in the middle so I can stand it on its ends to fit through the doors and corners of the corridor. It seems such a pain, to dis assemble the whole centre section , but it looks like I have to do it.

Are there any exploded drawing of how the frame & legs go together?

Steve Anderson is doing this with me and is VERY EXPERIENCED doing these sorts of things, but i want to get as much input as I can for this logistical move, as I dont have room for error.

Has anyone got some good advice please. . Cheers

Thank You in advance for any input.

I know a pianist who bought a cottage in the country, built a floor, had a crane set his 9 foot Steinway on that floor, and then proceeded to build the rest of the room around it.

You could widen the door perhaps?

Thank You, No I have gone through all those options, its a concrete studio in LA, and no walls or doorways can be removed.

There isn't by chance a window somewhere on the other side of the door is there? My last place we couldn't get the console threw the door but we found it barely passed threw a window... granted it was very heavy and took guys on both sides to help.

If no window try taking off things like armrests and side frames. You might just be able to take it down to the bare metal frame. I am not looking at your console right now though so that may not be an option either.

Bummer, sorry mate I have no experience in that field! Best of luck though. You should post a picture half way threw the door! If your not to busy swearing and kicking it by that point!

Moved a 48 input Neve V5106 a few years ago and just took it down to buckets... 5 of them. Took 2 days. Not too bad really.

looking for the old cards & computer used for Flying Faders 1

[QUOTE=Greg Curtis;8309288]Say hi to Steve!]

Will do , hes great !

Just BTW I am looking for the old cards & computer used for Flying Faders 1 with recall for my Neve VRP 36 in. console.

It seems you have upgraded to the new Flying Faders 2 - USB system.

I wanted to see if you still have the old Flying Faders 1 cards and computer and want to sell them?

Thank You

Here's a pic of our 96 channel VRP going through the wall.

Another:

I had to custom-order the front door to make sure it would fit inside. Had 1/4" to spare: (there's Frank, the #1 console mover in the country)

I don't know what to tell you about your situation. You can have the door frame removed/reinstalled. But it just sounds like you will need to chop it up. Lots of interconnections, and the card cages on the bottom as well. But Steve has a ton of knowledge of these things.

I do have 1 or 2 Viper cards. I need to look and see if I kept the computer.

Don't you want FF2? It's only $12,000.

Please provide pictures of both the doorway and the side profile of the console please. That would help in returning some helpful suggestions!

Hi

Back in the old days, all Neve consoles were designed to go through a 28" door once they were off their stand. You lay them on their back and slid them through.

How did the console get into the room?

These VRs have giant frames. There are several cages down below the modules that carry Flying Faders, summing, and film panel cards. And in the center there are the main power connections that leave an inch or so underneath to the floor. Giant freaking console designed in the heyday of commercial studios.

Geoff asks the best question of all... !

And you will probably need to unbolt some sections, and can always remove the door and trim to get another inch or two...

Best-

Consider yourself lucky. I had to pull my 64ch APC1000 out of a second story building in a very thin ally way with a giant crane. But that was after we had to bust out the side of the building to get it through the wall..

There is no easy way. Let that soak in. Take it apart, and get it over with. Do the job right or you will pay for in when you recommission.

This just reminded me.. I have been meaning to post the video of this.

So Far So Good, Tom Schlum to the rescue !

Its a small frame 36 , so we are gonna split it into 2. I spent about 3 days by myself, pulling all the channels, centre section & interconnects etc out, unscrewing the buckets to separate 1 & 2 from the rest, and driving to my studio. it was not easy for one person.

i made an extensive Video Log (94 videos on my G12) as I did it, so i know how to reconstruct it. ;-)

Tom Schlum contacted me from here, and he came down on day 4 to direct the final separation for the move. Steve Anderson Came Down too on Day 4 and between us all directed by Tom we got her undone, so to speak.

here is a picture, of Tom (Back) , and 1 goofing around standing it up ;-))

With Tom to the rescue, it was a breeze. - - - - For anyone who needs great audio techs, these Tom Schlum & John Musgrave are TOP NOTCH . .

I will do most of the maintenance and mods my self, but will hire Steve and Tom when I get stuck.

Today the truck comes to bring it to my studio. its going into my live Drum room, for now til I decide how to break it up.

I am going to make it a modular side car console, so i can use it in small places and travel with a sidecar to record in other studios.

Cheers

Nice! Awesome photo!

I think breaking it up is the way to go in your case...

Keep posting the action!

Let's get a new thread going with crazy console installation pics...

Well, this is GS, so I guess there'd only be 4-5 of us in it. Nevermind...

At last its in my place, The door way where a pain, took off the obvious, door & trims, then had to walk it around the studio complex following the wider coridors till we found a big door to the out side. I got it out and free standing outside with Help of a 6 man crew and Tom & Myself. Mates LA cartage, picked it up and took it to my place, and Mates where great and very experienced. Thanks to Steve for suggesting them. Ill post a few pics, after I get some sleep .

But I do want to THANK ALL of you that reached out to help me doing this, on this Forum . Cheers GearSlutz !!! off to bed.

Casters On NEVE VRP 36 in

I may need to get to the back of the console, i have a tight space, so i made some metal plates to attached casters to , kinda like a grand piano studio wheels system, I wanted the console to be able to roll any direction, but also be able to level, raise or lower it too. Teh casters are recessed so looks nice too and this system I have a wider elevation range than the original Neve legs! vid here

Nice bit of engineering there, Bobby!

Since it will be up against the wall I suggest that you remove the back panels. They are there just for show. Since no you will see them all they will do is restrict airflow and keep heat in.
