High end Question for a low end choice

Ok Guys

If you had a choice between the Mackie 824's or yamaha's HS80M what would be the best choice.

hi billy,

i've never hear the yamahas, but i've got the 824s and had done a couple records on them before i made the purchase.

my 2 cents - they're the best monitor for the money out there (although i think they're discontinued). they're not too hi-fi and have a very accurate midrange, which is really what turned me on to them. if i could afford some KRK V8s, i would, but these do a hell of a job in the mean time. they're not too fatiguing and mixes translate very well from them.

but i think they're also almost twice the price of the yams, which again, i've never used so can't tell you one way or the other.

The HS80's are definitely not the same as the NS10's. They look similar, but that's where it stops. They're quite a bit more hi-fi than the originals, so I'd say they're probably fairly similar to the Mackies. If you're looking for the hi-fi sound, you'll probably do well with either. Of course, my advice is to get yourself a pair of NS10's. You'll spend less and get so much more.

Since I posted this thread I read alot about the Studio Precision 8's and for the money and reviews there better then the mackies and the yamaha's by far. for what they cost you would have to pay twice as much for monitors that would compare.

Any Thoughts out there
