Vintage gear with cool sounds vs. New gear with cool support.,

Well, I might be able to return my messed up output PCM70. If I do, I'll get back about $700. Its a vintage peice of gear, and i was thinking maybe it's better to get a PCM91 if I get all my $ back. I could afford one if I get my $ back. It a more modern peice and while it's not as legendary as the PCM70, it's still supported. Im sick of dealing with old gear that nobody can fix. I realize there are people out there who can fix my PCM70, like Jim Fabiano, but I don't want to blow my $ on a vintage peice that could just get messed up again. It's just my experience talking to me. I've had great luck with old stuff, but it might be worth it to buy the newer stuff these days. After all, it is a digital peice of gear, and I bet in the years they have come a long way. unfortunetly, I got the bad end of this PCM70 deal here. Opinions on the PCM91 vs the PCM70? I feel bad, because I was happy to get a 'legendary' product from the lineup, but now I feel like I'm left in the dust.

I've had a similar experience, and have gotten tired of buying used gear that is advertised as 100% but is in fact unusable and unrepairable. I've gone back to purchasing mostly new gear. The thing is, there's some gear being made these days that sounds great! You don't need to go vintage to have good gear.

Well, the seller offered to pay $200 for a repair by Jim Fabiano, which is cool. Im thinking I can get it repaired and then sell it and advertise it as 'Just Serviced by Jim Fabiano!'. It might work to my advantage...

You are crying about $200 repair in the High End forumn?

And for $200 you are willing to give it up and buy something new which Lexicon will soon stop supporting and doesn't sound as good?

Whatever man.

Bottomn line...everything will break down eventually.

Nothing will work forever.

Even the new stuff.

Repairs in the studio are a part of life.

In my opinion PCM91 sounds WAY better than PCM70...
