Have Eventide/PCM 70...any room for Yamaha SPX2000

Hey all,

Any advice from Yamaha spx2000 users would be greatly appreciated.

Already in the effects rack, Eventide H3000 and lexicon pcm 70, but recently got a chance to grab a new SPX2000 overseas at a great price. Question is, will it get any use? I Know its a cheaper unit, but some people have said there are some classic sounds in that piece.

I feel very covered with H3000 and PCM70 for verb and effects, but I always felt there was room for things like a little more stereo delay. Anything in the SPX2000 classic bank that comes close to the old D5000 Digital Delay? - loved that unit when I had one years ago.

Thanks, Dave

I don't have hands on experience with the spx2000 however if you are just looking for delay settings and don't have the big bucks for the Yamaha D5000 then look at grabbing their prior delay unit. It's the D1500 and with smart shopping can be found for under $100. Many effects boxes have their own personality and can be used just for that so I don't see anything wrong with having some in the rack even if they may not get used too often.

I do know that the SPX2000 was supposedly programmed by british guys as Yamaha were sick of the same kind of presets coming out in the SPX line, and the fact the SPX90 had kind off been a marked man with people already thinking they knew what SPX990's and 1000's sounded like. I also remember they were pretty expensive, around 1800 bucks when released and that many of those FX designs were ported over into other yamaha digital products like the Consoles O2r96 and Dm1000/2000 etc. The 1500 Delay is a brilliant 20 bit unit that has great modulation & routing features, a very cool DDL from Yammy! If that helps? A quick ebay search is showing SPX990's at around 400-450$
