Thread Starter | Modern FET compressors with some balls??
Hey all...
Can any modern stereo FET's do the Compex sound? Thinking maybe the FCS P4dms?
Struggling to find a machine i want to drop any cash on.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
The P4DMS has some serious balls, but it is a VCA compressor. Not a FET.
Best

Not stereo, but the BAC500 Fet comp has a ton of balls. It can be subtle, though not as subtle as an 1176, or add a rediculous amount of balls and attitude to a track. Between that and my 1176s, I can get a multitude of sounds. And when one doesn't work, the other usually does.

i dont think they use the carbon pots that are in the original, which is an upgrade for sure!
not sure of other variances....... but they are very close as far as i can tell.
i got to play with one for a few minutes on drums and it sounded great.

The Chandler Germanium compressor is FET based, and has big, long, dangly, hairy balls (with popping cherries on top). You'll need a pair though, unless you want to have only one ball.

1176 clones got plenty balls in my opinion. Here's a quick hard compression processing I did with my stereo unit: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/70609905/bounce.mp3
Slow attack and rather fast release as the usual drum processing.
It's like an original Urei Rev A with lots of hair on its balls!
