Using the Chandler Abbey Road Channel as an EQ only?

I'm expecting a Great River MP500nv to arrive any day and as much as I would like to purchase the EQ32 to compliment it for vocals I would like to still use the Chandler TG Channel EQ for now.

If I can bypass the pre in the TG Channel that would be great

Thanks.

Err..line in?! Not gonna bypass pre as such, but no difference to going in line in on just about any console....

That makes sense. Do you think the TGs pre will color the Great River a lot?

Sorry for the newbie questions but I got the TG a while ago and I'm now just getting around to learning how to use such a piece of gear.

Thanks

The tg channel itself will, but that's kind of what it does. Even if you could bypass the pre completely, you'd still get that chandler sound from just the eq, so I wouldnt worry too much.

Well I got the Great River and sent it through the Abbey Road Channel EQ. The verdict? It sounds very similar to just running the TG Channel by itself

I'm considering getting different EQ for the lunchbox for a different flavor. Should I just try the Harrison Great River EQ32? Any other suggestions? I will be using this for vocals. Right now I have. BLUE Blueberry but I'm expecting a BLUE Mouse.

Thanks

This would be for male vocals. Any other lunchbox EQ choices?

Try driving the input to the GR and backing off the output, also try the different loading/impedance switches - they can make a difference. But the TG is such a strong flavour on it's own, I'm not surprised you're not hearing much of a difference!

API is the obvious one...but there's a load of 500 series EQs out there.

I guess a good question would be would the Harrison EQ be much different sounding compared to the Abbey Road Channel? Or would an API be a more extreme contrast to the TG? I just want a different flavor.

Harrison is more flexible than API - API is fixed 2dB boost/cut.

Both will be very different to the TG channel.

I can't say how different they'll be to each other, I've used both but not side by side.

I love the Great River Harrison EQ32 on anything.
They are on the clean side and not a EQ that is going to bring a lot of flavor to the table.
The API 550A, A-Designs EM-PEQ, and the Electrodyne 511 EQs are some of my personal favors for color vibe and or Mojo!
Decide what you want from the EQ the go from there.
the Great River Harrison EQ32 are very useful and versatile so i think everyone needs a couple but the other EQs have a lot to offer and i find then needed as well: )

I think you should realize that ANY thing you put inline is gonna have a sound. Period. And if its the final thing in the chain, then its sonic signature can have a more obvious effect.

BUT the ONLY thing that matters is- does it sound good? Not does it sound like the TG channel- unless you think that sounds bad.

And the only way to know is to try- no posts can help you there.

OH and I would look at getting a nicer mic than the blueberry and mouse. I owned a Blueberry and did not keep it- but who knows, maybe its magic for you.
