Thread Starter | Best hi-end drum room in Los Angeles? with a WOW factor
Heya all I was going to record rock drums for a day at Capitol Studios very soon - but they are booked the day we need. Any suggestions for your fav place to record drums in LA? We need a place that will really impress the clients, sound great, and have great support staff. I’m engineering the date. The Village or the Record Plant come to my mind.... possibly Ocean Way...... where else have folks worked, and been very happy? thanks |

Our room sounds pretty good. We had a tracking session with one of our regular session drummers, Dave Allan. Last night he decided to complete the tracking of his album with his band, Brother. He informed me later in the evening that we'd gotten the best sounds he's ever had. Plus, we're right next door to Capitol!!! |

You can't beat Sound City for drums. No Wow factor, though, unless your clients are into Nirvana, Dr. John, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, etc., etc. Good support staff is great, but I swear I've always gotten better drum sounds in dingier rock n roll dives than places like Capital or the Village. And hey, I just put up some new Sonex in my garage. I think the real answer to your question is Village Studio D. -R |

the village or oceanstudios in burbank both totally have the "wow" factor and are both great studios |

The last update I heard (last week at Tape Op) is Cello is still not open. They are still upgrading the studio before they open.

Capitol is cool, kind of like walking into a time machine, but a little weird with so much corporate/security around. Other "wow" studios: NRG, Royaltone (might be private now), The Pass (used to be Larrabee E., but now they give you free patron!), Ocean Way is less fancy, but good historical vibe, and nice rooms... -brian |

What about Avatar Studios in New York, maybe it's worth the trip? |

A friend of mine had some stuff on his protools rig from drums he tracked at NRG. The room mics sounded insane. Hardly no cymbals, just huge sounding drums... |

This one is a medium sized semi-private studio, but i think it's the -best- sounding drum room in LA: http://www.studiowishbone.com/ -brian |

Does anyone know if Extasy (the old "one on one") is still around? That was a live room!

Look for good sound, forget wow-factor. Who's gonna say "wow!" at Hensen? ..nobody. Great place though.

Already know about it (first hand). I'm still not getting the correlation between drum room and (name-dropping, wow-factor, historic site) ..even though A&M (Henson as some call it) has it all, so .....there's your answer dude! HENSON!
