SUMMING GEAR QUESTION: API-8200 or Vermona Synth Inserts?

I NEED to buy a summing mixer for my personal needs, but I also Need to buy an analog drum synthesizer with midi capability.

I was going to buy the summing mixer first as I allready have samplers for drums that will pacify me while I save cash.

The summing mixer is an API rack. But, the Drum Synthesizer I am most interested in has inserts on every channel for processing. So, could the inserts be used as a summing means temporarily? If so, would it sound good enouph for a mix if I used a buss compressor/limiter on the output?

Or is that a dumb idea? The Compressor/limiter I am after is an API-2500.

And if I had an API-2500, would I need a API-8200a or will I only need an API-8200 version?

Just trying to save a few thousand here and there and I am new to the game.

Any advice or opinions on the matter are welcomed, and thanks.

OK

Guess that was a dumb idea for some reason. I should just get a used API summing rack with built-in amplifier and use mastering software in my old Roland VS-2480 for now.

are you sure you NEED a summing mixer? a summing unit is about the last thing on earth that i would suggest to a new studio owner.

No Analog Summin, Hmmm

Well, I have some synths midied-up in the mix, I don't want to record in digital before the the mastering stage because even thow the preamps have a mod to them, I don't know. They are not what I'm looking for an most things. I like analog IN THE MIX alot. I don't use an interface or any plugins and don't really want to.

And I know that my main samler (MPC4000 with multiple analog and digital outs) does not sound exactly like I want without some kinds of analog processing on the end. I also thought the quality would stay purer that way, in this case.

Thanks for the reply, I could try to rethink this in some way. Hmm.
