Looking for versatile Acoustic/Vocal Mic

Hey, everyone!

I would like some microphone suggestions. My budget is around a thousand.

I'm looking for something that will work well for clean vocals (both male and female) and acoustic guitar.

I was looking at the AKG 414 XL, but the reviews are very mixed on the latest line of 414s available.

I was also recommended a Blue Bottle Rocket Stage One which comes with the B8 capsule, but can use any of the Blue Capsules. I'm having trouble finding any reliable reviews on this mic, however.

Let me know what you suggest and why.

Thanks!

I'd check out the Violet Design Amethyst Vintage for a bit more than your budget or for less than your budget the Milab DC96-B..

Check them out in your place if you could, decide if they'll work for you with your ears..

I have a few of the RED versions of the Blue Bottle Rocket Stage, with a number B8 capsules. Same as the BLUE.
I like em.
I think some great dynamics are always worth a look but they do almost always bring some flavor to the table.

The Shure KSM44 may be a nice option, it is a VERY natural sounding mic.

It might be a nice candidate for both things.

Mojave MA-200 or ADK TC-67 AU. Both are very versatile in terms of overall tone (not too bright and with a bit of rich color). Both Mojave and ADK are great companies with excellent customer service, and both mics have top notch build quality.

I've used the Neumann TLM103 a few times and it had a really aggressive high end bite I didn't like too much. How different is the TLM102?

Ah, yes. I forgot about this mic somehow. This is definitely a candidate. Thanks.

The rest of them I'll look into.

Thanks everyone

A gefell UM(T)70(S) or variations or an AKG C414 (not the XL-II version) is what comes to mind (and in a lesser degree an U87 but that is over budget), both are very versatile for voice and acoustic and are used a lot. both are arround your budget.

Try out the TLM67, it's well rounded, not overly hyped and sounds good on just about anything.

Very underrated mic IMHO as is the 414BULS. I've had the BULS win out over my old 87 on numerous occasions and considering you can get them for $500 makes them a better buy then many Chinese options,by far..

TLM102 is about as non-hyped as it gets. Never used the TLM103, but I'm told they are nothing alike. The TLM102 is hard to beat as an all around workhorse for $600. I've used it on vox, drums, acoustic, piano, and it rocks.

Look into CharterOak
Sa538 (bit above your budget)
or
E700 (bit under your budget)!

If you search... "Mojave ma200 adk gk12" you will find a few samples of a mojave ma200 that I put an adk gk12 capsule in. I liked the mojave before the capsule swap... But now I just love it. Great on Vox and ac gtr. You could get a mojave on eBay and have kevin Dale at adk custom shop put in the capsule for you for around a grand.

Blackspade um17 or a used Soundeluxe u195 are both great Mics for both applications. I've got an acoustic oriented project in right now where we tracked all the ox, acoustic, and mando with the Blackspade. PM me if you want some raw tracks to check out.

Fantastic reply. Thank you for more quickly answering the question than I was able to.
