Classic API VP312 with Blue Dots?

After reading every thread I could possibly find regarding the Classic API preamps, this is the one question that is killing me. Does anyone have the VP312 with a SL2520 Blue Dot installed? The only thing I read about it was (I believe Jeff himself) saying that several people have told him that VP312s with Blue Dots were their favorite for OH and Room duties. That's what got me thinking, because I'm planning on building a pair that will be exclusively for that use. OH for now, and potentially Room down the line.

I'm planning on doing a mix of VP25/26's with Red Dots for drum close mic duties and know that I want the VP312 in the OH position. I've seen talk about every op amp in the 312's from people with first hand experience except for this one. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, these CAPI's will be my first preamp builds. I can only afford to do two at a time and was planning on starting with the VP312s since they would be most useful for me right away. But everyone seems to build a 26 first. Should I worry about this or am I just fine to build a 312 first? I know that Jeff's assembly guide is geared primarily for the 26 but still applies with slight changes for the 25 and 312.

Thanks to everyone who shares their knowledge here... long time reader but first time poster.

AFAIK, the Blue Dots are supposed to be closer to the current run of 2520s than the Red Dots which are supposed to be closer to the vintage ones. I seem to recall reading that in one of the many threads. So, I believe the thinking would be as follows:

VP312 w/ Blue Dot = closer to the 512/3124
VP312 w/ Red Dot (or GAR, etc) = closer to the 312

I'm not positive, but maybe Jeff can chime in to clarify?

As far as the build goes, I built a pair of VP26 first but I don't think they're a prerequisite to the VP312. In fact, I found the VP312 to be slightly easier than the 26. I posted a thread about the differences (w/ photos) a while back that may be helpful to you:

Enjoy!
