Lexicon Prime Time/PCM42/224

Someone is offering me these three Lexicon units:
-Prime Time
-PCM42
-224 with Remote

I was looking for a Prime Time and had time to work with one for a couple of weeks, really like it!
So my questions:
-Do the three models overlap much (never worked with PCM42/224 before)?
-How much do you think is a fair price (they all come from a non-smoking studio, fully working and looking good).

Thanks for your input!

The Prime Time and PCM42 are both delays, the PCM42 being the longer delay. I never liked the Prime Time (M93), it just sounded grainy but I love the Prime Time II (M95) and Super Prime Time (M97). I tend to use my M95 on guitars and the PCM 42s on either the lead guitar or vocals.
I have never heard of a PCM224 from Lexicon. But if you mean a 224 reverb they can be wonderful. Because of their age I have heard about a lot of failures, and parts and repair are getting hard if not impossible to have done. I know that someone will chime in that you should get a Bricasti but when I had one my feelings were it just didn't have the sound of reverb, it sounded too hi-fi. The other thing for me was that it didn't do anything different from the other reverbs I have, but that is just me.
As for price you need to find out if any of the units have the memory expansion option and what version is the 224. (4.x being more desirable)

Good luck,
Steve

Hello Steve
Thank you very much for your input!
The Prime Time is an M95 and I decided to buy it, but I think I'll give the PCM 42 and the 224 a pass because I don't need another delay. And thanks to your post, I googled about repairs of the 224 unit and it looks like it is getting very expensive if something is wrong with it.
Thanks again!

i would give a second thought on a pcm 42. a lot of big time mixers are using it for main vocal delay(preferably two in combo). I was amazed whitnessing how Michael Brauer created perfect space around vocal using one.

I have a 42, 41 and a Prime time.

The 42 is awesome, the PT is great as well.

The PT is basically 2 mono delays - its a little funky and clunky but works great.

Don't do that, now I want this one too
One thing is, I'm a synth guy (sorry for posting in the High End Forum, but I didn't want to receive all the 'there's plugin X+Y for that' responses...) doing a lot of sound design, weird non-danceable instrumentals and soundtracks for some low-budget short-movies, all with hardware. I don't have a commercial studio and don't record/mix vocals, so I'm no big time mixer or producer.
I'll like the Prime Time because of the direct access to most of the features and the sound character, which I love together with some analogue synths.
I tried the PCM42 last night and it sounds great and to my ears the sound is cleaner/more transparent compared to the Prime Time, which would be a nice thing to have around too (and my first impression could be very wrong too, only worked with it for an hour yet).
So, if I can get a fair price for both units, I'll probably end up with both of theme (and sell my TC D-Two...), the seller is in no hurry.
Decisions, decisions...
