Thread Starter | Suggestions for dual channel hardware EQ
I am searching for a new dual channel/stereo EQ. The problem is the location where I live in Northland, New Zealand is very far from pro audio stores, which means I cannot test gear out before purchasing. Even the pro audio stores in Auckland often have to order gear in which takes months.
I am basically looking for an all purpose dual channel EQ for general tracking and mastering purposes to compliment the EQs I have, which are: MassivePassive, Hammer, VoxBox, CIB and 9098. I was thinking that something like an Rupert Neve Designs, API 5500 or Great River might do the trick but I am open to suggestions. I record a variety of music ranging from classical to rock.
The previous gear I have purchased has been influenced by recommendations on GS.
I look forward to reading your suggestions.

Don't think you can go wrong with the API 5500 considering what you already have. The RND 5033 is also a beauty and mighty flexible but I think every studio needs a couple API op-amps in it!

Really hard to go wrong with a Great River or 5500. IMHO,the range control featured on the 5500 puts it a cut above its 500 series counterpart.

I can highly recommend the Millenia Media NSEQ-2, very clean with stepped controls and tube or FET operation depending which flavour you need.
Having said that the API5500 seems to be a firm favourite amongst many and is definitely next on my list, so I don;t think you can go wrong with either!

Also, the Tonelux Equalux is a strong consideration at this point, very smooth EQ that holds together nicely. It can also emulate the bass cut / boost Pultec trick (boost 60hZ with a wide Q, cut 60hZ with a narrow Q, it spreads the low end out to sound more spread out...), and has one of the sweetest most forgiving top end boosts around.
Lots to talk about though!

Perfect complement to the Massivo, use these in combination all the time.
Tonelux EQPs are great as well!

I like the Great River EQ-2NV. It's great for bus work or individual tracks. Its intuitive enough to use for tracking also if needed. The adjustable input knob is nice, it can make things punchier or softer to my ears, when needed. Plus GR are an excellent company who care about their customers a lot.

Focusrite Red 2 would complement what you have.

What are your thoughts on the Bettermaker EQ 230P? I have been offered one.

Great low end-and the 18k is sweet as hell.

You might also consider going 500. You get a lot of very good EQs for less money. And you can upgrade modularly

The API 5500 has always been a favorite of mine, and it's a lot more versatile than a pair of 550a's or b's... It's hard to make a recommendation without knowing your personal tastes, but I think the 5500 would be a safe choice.
