Where do you get most your High End music gear? I usually go to Musiciansfriend, but Sweetwater and Guitarcenter are pretty big as well. Just curious as to where everyone prefers to get there gear from.

Aside from a few items at sweetwater you aren't going to find much high end at those places. Of course, everyone's definition of 'high end' seems to differ nowadays...

Musiciansfriend is owned by Guitar Center. Their sort of one-and-the-same. You might want to use Alto Music in its place, especially since Alto Music advertises they are the worlds most complete store. Here's a link - Guitars, Bass, Pro Audio, Keyboards, DJ equipment and more at Alto Music | Alto Music

Also, many people like myself just bounce around from store to store shopping with who ever has the best bargains. I shop with Musiciansfriend, Scitscat, Front End Audio, Novamusic, Sweetwater, Casio, Audiomidi, Music123, and whoever have bargains on Ebay like Audiodelux. What i'm saying is some of us are'nt married or loyal to a particular store (altho there are some stores i do prefer to spend with and often will go to first because they have been really good to me, but still not married to them). Many of us tend to go where the bargains are and often stores like Sweetwater and Musiciansfriend are not really willing to match or beat bargain prices despite some advertising they will at times.

I agree Alto Music is great. I get stuff from them a well as Vintage King. Those two cover me pretty much and they're great to deal with.

One thing I forgot to mention is I'd encourage you to develop a relationship with a specific salesperson at one of those higher end places. I check up on my guy periodically to keep him honest (in my mind anyhow) but after buying from him for almost 15 years he is consistently lower than anyone else. Not to mention he is great to deal with. I shudder whenever I am forced to walk into a GC.

Wondering why Vintage Kind, Mercenary and Alto weren't covered.

Got stuff from VK and Mercenary already. Shipped to Switzerland. Great customer service.

Mario at Studio Economik is great. My family lives in Canada, so whenever they visit me in Brazil, their suitcases are full of new toys.

Craig's List.

Buy new and you pay a large markup.

I'd rather save the $ and take advantage of someone else's fashion mistakes. Even new gear is available used, just wait a week or so.

This poll will give meaningless results.

The first three options are in the USA, so only people in the USA would vote any of those.

Everyone else will vote "other". But this will include people in the USA that don't buy from the first three.

This means you are likely to get a massive vote for "other" and very few votes for the first three.

So you won't really get any meaningful information.

You should have included more options:
EG:
  • n/a outside USA
  • other US based dealer
  • other on-line dealer
  • etc...

All polls here are meaningless. They are not scientific samples. Consider them "entertainment use only". Polls are flawed in the UK where everyone gives polsters false answers to mess them up, it's FUN! No one takes them seriously there, many don't bother taking them anymore, a good thing.

Now if Americans could learn those tricks we might get to laugh at our own stupid polls.

google shopping will show you all of the prices of all of these stores, all at once. it seems crazy to me not to check google shopping before you buy something.

That will not work sometimes. Stores are not allowed to list a price lower than the advertised price allowed by manufacterers sometimes. So basically the listed price may be higher than what they will sell it to you for, they just can't list the very low sales price. So i doubt google will help you in this situation, you need to call the stores directly and talk to them and give them prices of their competitors.

occasionally. And just about every store will match every other store.
