| Drum overheads mics specific request I'm in search for a bright cymbal sound, but smooth top end. We have a pair of SM81, which works sometimes, but they can be harsh in some cases. We also have a 414 ULS pair, which sounds very good, but has a too "flat" and vintage touch in the room we work in (small room that can be a bit muddy sometimes). That's the pair we use quite often, with a Pacifica pre. There is also a Soundelux U95 tube mic, that we use for the vocals. It has NOS Tubes in it and sounds very good, just bright with a warm touch. What do you think of buying another U95, put NOS Tubes in it, and use them as OH ?? That mic is very sensible : when we use it for vocals, we can also ear every other sound detail in the room. In our case, would it worth to buy another U95, knowing the room is small and not very "interesting" ? What do you think of options like Gefell M300, Neumann KM84, or Josephson C42 ? |
