Deciding on HD interfaces

I am getting into an HD setup this week but am still deciding on interfaces.

My two main options are:

A. 2 x 96 (16i/o) into a 2 bus lt
B. 96i for inputs, 96 for 8 channels of hardware inserts

I already have the 2bus, but I haven't hooked it up. I don't have the dsub cables yet, so I haven't been able to test it out.

I could always exchange it for a Germanium (which I have heard) and go with the ITB setup with hardware inserts. I am coming from the prosumer range of convertors so it's going to be a step up regardless.

You must choose option C. Those 96 interfaces sound horrendous, ask anyone.

If they cut the price in half tomorrow, then cut it in half again the next day, I might think about it if they would give away free dsp cards and plug ins that didnt suck. I wonder if they will ever figure out that they should lower the price because people dont need shitidesign anymore.
Why jump on a sinking boat that costs you alot of money to get on?

Um, at the risk of further hijacking the thread, is there any evidence the boat is actually sinking? Or is this little drama unfolding entirely in your head? Have I wandered onto a Nuendo forum by mistake?

It would appear the boat was sinking when it costs about 3-4 times the ammount of other systems that are much better. Plus, every converter they ever made with the exception of the 192 is garbarge.
I wonder if there are any slofools who gave their money away for the digipre?Someone please post on how great this box is please...
Oh yea never had a crash in a session with Nuendo, used Pro Tools much less, had many of crashes with other engineers running Pro Tools sessions. What a bummer.
Also, not hijacking a thread. This is just like some of the people who didnt listen to me in the first place when i said dont get a 002 and dont get a G4. Now they are all trying to get rid of that crap.

Go for the 192 interfaces. 96 isn't the same.

I presently use 3 192 interfaces (all options added) clocked with a Big Ben and it's been solid for 3 years so far.

Another vote for the 192. That is a beautiful sounding interface. That coupled with PT HD 7 is a stellar setup. There are some great things coming this fall for HD. Keep your eye out. It is not new hardware so dont worry about that.

Mmmmm, tasty!

Just curious how you know what new things are coming out? Do you know what they might be?

BTW: Another vote for the 192 . . . sounds great!

i'm going with the 192 with the AD expansion card. I'm just going to mix in Protools for now and trade the 2bus for a Germanium.

I am just going to go with as good an input chain as i can and use the hardware inserts in PT.

Agree on the 192. I have a 96i which I use when I exceed the 16 ins on the 192, and it lacks clarity and crispness.

The 192 is about the same price as two 96 interfaces if I'm not mistaken (If you add the extra card, it's of course an extra EUR 1,000).

The sound is also two times better though.

I really like teh quality of the 192 although I must admit I never compared my 192 to interfaces from other vendors.

The new industry standard

Even if the 192 sounds grudgingley good.
It costs a lot of money and when I have the sync problems sorted with my 64Track
Eddison clone clockwork wax cylinder design, that works in third world nations without electricity you will be sorry that you ignored my new industry standard.
Eq is achieved by plug-ins these are different length and diameter exponetial horns pluged in to the diaphram housings. Delay and reverb FX are achieved by the simple measure of having a cardbord foldout model of the Grand Canion, which can be easily erected where space allows. So you think my ideas are impractical do you you sluts and lacys of the didgidesign cult. Ill show you you just wait.
THE WORLD OF PRO AUDIO SHALL BE MINE ALL MINE.

I totally agree with everyone’s comments on upgrading to the 192, the 96 is a huge piece of... (add your favorite four letter word here). Have you thought about going with non-digi converters? There are several companies that make HD cards, which allow the converters to interface directly to the HD core cards.

Hey Zach,

I only know of apogee hardware that can directly interface with PTHD. Are there more?

I have a Digital 192 hooked up to a Sony DMX R100 and am loving it!!
