Seems they sold the name too...wonder if they're getting "royalties" on the name?

Yeah, saw the site. What a joke and a sad situation. They have names up there on the site that never even recorded there. John Lenon - The building was done in 1992 and I never saw John there, so WTF? Stones were never there, though Mick was in studio 1 once.

I don't think they'll tell the peolpe that are looking at buying these places because of those names that they recorded at one of the other buildings.

Well, if someone bought that huge penthouse, the daily rate they paid to live there (with an "average" mortgage)would start to approach what you would've paid for a lockout on one of the smaller rooms. So, in a sense.....prices have come down!!!!

Wow. The opposite of NOLA. Nola used to be a penthouse appartment.

The Hit Factory had 3 locations over the years. First at 353 w48th steet, the present home of Sear Sound. Next on 42nd street between 5th and 6th, that room became the Big House and most recently, Mirror Image Recording. Finaly the Hit Factory ended up in it's present location, accross the street from Sony and around the corner from Avatar.

Now, if you're stupid rich, you can either live in the Hit Factory or live at the old Stanhope Hotel ( where Charlie Parker died).

I believe that the site of the old Columbia Records studio on 30th street has become condos as well.

Hit Factory Condo: I wonder if the rules allow residents to practice drums or trumpet at 3am?

Ummmm.......42nd st was an addition while the original 54th st location was going, before they moved to the new glitzy 54th st location.

sound-proof baths?

tuned kitchen flat to 10Hz?

eventide-style canyon reverb in the broom closets?

hot-swappable hard drive bays in the dumbwaiter?

Condo renderings are ugly--like a Philippe Starck hotel.
The views look nice, however.

Whole place was and is an overpriced toilet.

Most of the good ones are now at Criteria in Miami.

Where are you working at Narco? Neil Finn's place?...

yup, the engineer here was saying they got first pick, I don't know if he means that literally

mostly Neuman LDC's , a pultec and compressers I think. There is a 251 here but I think neil may have already owned that.

They got first pick of whatever mics the people at the Hit Factory decided they didn't need anymore... Mostly U87's, etc. Also, if you look at the stickers, they were ugly white stickers with numbers on them and didn't say "Hit Factory" on them... If there is a sticker that actually says "Hit Factory", then thsoe were put on by someone else.

BTW, all of the great outboard gear was sold about 5 years ago when Troy decided to cycle out all the "old stuff"... So, any HF gear they bought from the closing was typically no older than 5 years old(especially the 1176's, LA2A's, etc) with a few exceptions..

I dunno... the kitchens look pretty awesome to me... but I like to cook way more than I ever enjoyed working in the "new" HF... the "old" [farther east on 54th St.] location was a better recording facility in my opinion... then again, nobody asked me.

Peace.

I'm surprised at how 'cheap' they are. I mean ... really ... Manhatten / NY ... that's one of , if not the most expensive city in the world. I would have expected them to cost more.

OMG.....

A 1 bedroom is $1,025,000, plus $1,697 per month in real estate tax and monthly common charges.

Tony, most of that stuff was from the Rental Co. almost all the blackface 1176's and old LA2A's were kept in the rooms (Hell, I bought 2 old LA2As when Hit closed - pre limit/comp mod). the 1176 and LA2As we bought from you're old workplace were mostly for the new rooms, and yes the cream of the gear was sent to FL, but that was a very funny meeting as to what went down. Some of the things that were and weren't selected left me laughing.
Though a lot of the good stuff did get sent down. I did send them the fairchild 670 - if ayone down there has experience with this unit and knows how to cal it, I doubt it, but Simon is quite capable and hopefully should be able to get it going properly.

I just opened my spreadsheet from the shipment to FL and yes the cream o the mic's went down to FL, the M50s, M49s, 251s,C12s, C24, 4006, 7, 11, SM57s, SM58s OK, so I threw some in that aren't cream which didn't go, but you get the point.

I just checked out the condo website. It's $1000 USD per square foot

Is this "normal" in New York??
