A7x is in my opinion serious contender, its cheaper but I would personaly prefer it to any of the genelec 8xxx series

A7 was very popular, but it didnt had enough bass, the a7x have half inch larger woofer and much stronger 100w amp for its 7" woofer and it have upgraded tweeter, the X-Art

that thing is crystal clear and bass is very good for its price and size, its not perfectly flat but when someone say in that price range that something is flat hes lying

that or yamaha MSP7,more conventional,if you cant stand the crystal clear ribbon tweeter, this is what I would get

some will say get dynaudio, but that would not by my choice

if you get money and want best two way in like 6-8inch size, get adam s2x,that shit is overpriced as hell, but its in my opinion best two way monitor ever made, just that price sucks

sound as good as it looks

At that sort of budget (under £1,500 I assume), I would put the Neumann KH 120A at the top of the list.

Agreed that the ATC are excellent and are in my top-5 monitor list.

But I would put them equal to the PMC, Neumann/K+H, ME Geithain and Harbeth. I would be happy with any of these.

I actually own: Harbeth M30A, K+H O110D and Geithain RL906, but do know the ATC and PMC pretty well, as a friend had an ATC rig and I know PMC very well.

I rate all of these pretty equal price for price.

There's a few you can get.

Adam A7X
Dynaudio BM6
Focal CMS 65
Genelec 8040A
JBL LSR2328P
KRK VXT8
Mackie HR824mk2
Nuemann 120a
Sonodyne SM100AK & SM200AK

Which ones you will like the most only you will know. Don't listen to hearsay and people saying get a single monitor because they like it or they hate this other monitor blah blah, monitors are very personal and Internet users cannot say which will suit you the most. It's important for us to just say a list of ones which are good candidates for you and you choose personally, not people recommending a single monitor because they like it and all that crap.

Not sure I agree with your list, other than one of them, but I certainly agree with what you said.

Hello Iiri!

If you can save some money, I'd highly recommend purchasing Quested S8R.

Monitoring systems - studio speakers. Welcome to the world of QUESTED

S7R is Roger's own favourite from the line and that model aint bad either, thought you might need an additional sub. This model would be nearer the same price range as 8040a.

Sorry to hear that those are such expensive there! http://quested.com/find-questeds-near-you.html

Have you tried to contact to your local dealer? I got a good deal from my own Quested reseller.

I used Genelec 8040A before my current monitors(S6R) and althought those sounded great, I find Quested suiting better to my own taste. I find Genelec's sound a bit too fatiguing, especially if working longer periods.

If you want Genelecs, you should definetely audition those and try to mix, if possible.

When I purchased my Questeds, those costed about 1100e including shipping from the UK. A pair of S8R would have been under 2k.

If you are interested about 3-way system, you could also consider S6R+Sub combination. Im gonna a add sub later.

Well, beside the look, I would take any monitor with ribbon tweeters over the traditional ones and Adam is definitly a good choice. Maybe I am biased, but I listened to many monitors and this is just something that I noticed.

8040A is a great monitor but I just prefered the sound of Quested. I guess it is a matter of taste Best thing would be just audition those both and choose which one you like more though I still ended up changing

I would still say that the Neumann KH120A is probably the best around at around the £1k price range (retail at £1,200).

I have tried all these (well, Dynaudios were BM5As) and thought they all sounded great. Mackies and KRKs were a bit flabby in the bass department due to the larger speakers, BM5As weren't bassy enough, Adams were probably just about right.

John
Some think Dyanaudio, Adams, or Focal's are the best in that price range it's personal and no one can say one monitor is probably the best just because their personal opinion says so.

The 120 are the most marketed monitor out there, I tested them but I was left disappointed as I know many others are, while many others love them, it's a personal thing so as said before it's important to look at as many monitors as possible and no go on the most marketed monitor or get a monitor based on someones personal opinion.

I did say this a couple of times in earlier posts.

Personally, the Geithain RL906 are my favourites (but are out of budget); but, in budget, I did suggest quite a few to listen to earlier.

I just think the KH120A are probably the best in budget ones.

I'm not struck on Dynaudo and Adam, myself, nor Genelec - but, as you say, it's down to personal choice and the room.

But, just remember, that a monitor is there to be revealing about what you are doing, so you can make a great recording and not to "sound great" in itself.
