non vaulted tracking room?

I am looking at a house that has a basement that i could set up as my new studio, but the rooms are standard 8' ceilings. The dimensions are roughly 20'x15' an 10'x15'.
Any thoughts on the suitability for band tracking?
My current room is about the same with a vault and my drum booth is 8x12 with an 8' ceiling. I get a good dead sound in the drum room. My thought is that I could set the new rooms up dead using absorbtive and reflective materials and it would be fine. I do a range of material from world to rnb to jazz. A jazz quartet sounds great in my current room, wondering if it would be too boxey in the proposed new room?

Thanks for any advice.

I really can't afford the house, so bad news is welcome

It is not impossible to record a jazz Q4 in the room you describe. You WILL need some bass traps. It should be possible to record without headphones using a minnimum of isolation. In a small room with a low ceiling you'll have to comprimise on some mic-ing tecniques, unless you want to go total isolation.

If you buy the place, post some pictures. Fellow gearslut JazzYoda will be of help in these matters.
