Thread Starter | Low end distorted
So I got my Sennheiser HD650 the other day. Been listening alot of albums again, and smiling while doing it thumbsup ! But... some albums exhibit a good amount of low end distortion, ofcourse esp. noticable on bass and kickdrum. First song on the John Mayer album 'Heavier Things' is the last example I encountered. Never heard it before, so I assumed the headphone amp of my Powerbook was crapping out. Switched to my high(er) end CD deck. Guess what... even more pronounced. It can't be the cans themselves, because a lot of bass-heavy tracks (Toto Mindfields anyone?) are superb. So, observation one: HD650 really allows me to hear more than ever before in this department. Observation two: a mainstream Grammy winning album contains blatanty obvious (at least on these cans ) distortion... right? But it was friggin' mastered by Bob Ludwig?! Where is the end?On a lighter note: anyone has a recommendation for a headphone amp to pair with the HD650? It's already obvious this thing is picky, but I'd like to keep the price of the amp under the price of the HD650 (i.e. <300 Euro). |
