Valvet and Valvet Voice

What is the difference between the Brauner Valvet and the Valvet Voice. Main use for me is for vocals.
I'm also (still)waiting to try out a Soundelux U99, it's not a really used mic here in Australia. (only one supplier as far as I know)

Nick:
The difference between a Brauner Valvet and Brauner Valvet Voice is significant. Technically, the Valvet is a dual diaphragm multipattern mic (omni/cardioid switchable). The Valvet Voice is a model Dirk built just for us that is a single capsule (back diapragm off)fixed cardioid, designed just for vocals.

Sound wise, the Valvet shares a lot more with a stock Vm1 than a Valvet Voice. The Valvet is ideal as a orchestral, instrument, female kind of mic. Is great at distant pick up as well as nearfield. Ideal on anything that has a lot of harmonic detail, where that detail is realy important to the recording.

The Valvet Voice has quite a bit of proximity effect due to its single capsule design, has a more rolled off top end. Really set up for "clean vocals". A much bigger microphone, a "smoother" mic.

That help at all?

Haven't heard the Brauners but the Soundelux U99 is a killer mic...gets a lot of use on vocals and also on OHs.It has a nice extended top (but never seems harsh)and nice low end.
Try it if you get a chance.
