Mic for Pop (ex. Christine Aguilera, Kelly Klarkson)

Hi,
Right now I have a Audio Technica 4050. I like the mic. How much different is a $6000 mic like the SONY compared to the 4050. I keep reading that some mics are brighter or more lows. Can't you compensate with EQ. Does a $6000 mic just sounds different EQ wise or is there a drastic proffesional difference in the mic compared to my 4050

Also what Mics do you recommend for Strong pop singers like Christina Aguleria or Kelly klarson types.
thanks

neumann u87 is the pop staple. you can get a similar sound with the tlm103 if you're on a limited budget.

AKG C12, Telefunken ELA M251, Sony C800, Neumann U87, Neumann U67, Neumann M49, Brauner VM1...something with it's share of "air" on top.

those are good starting points. it's good to have a selection of these kinds of mics just in case the singer really doesn't match up with mic-x.

Does the soundelux 195 work for these kind of vocal situations or would a tlm 103 fair better..

You can get a 103 to sound like a U87? Hmmmm.... Nope!!!

Get the U195 over the 103, but there is so much more at that price point! Look into Peluso's amazing mic!!!

Got to agree with this post. These mics aren't cheap and that is why they don't sound that way.

Which peluso would you reccomend.Th only ones I have seen here in the uk cost quite a lot more than the soundelux 195.
What other mic's would you suggest in the 195 price range.

Several tracks on the Kelly Clarkson album were recorded with a Korby "Convertible" microphone; not sure which capsule....
