U-77 wins again..

..this time on female vocals. Against C-12, VM-1 & M-149.

I just love that mic!

It's the precursor to an 87 right? Solid state and used an external power supply that did a better job of powering the capsule than the later 48 volt phantom power standard? (Which many say is not enough volts)?

Used one for the first time recently on a vocal, through a Shadow Hills Gama and a nice vintage 1176 into PT. Lush sounding top end. Was mightily impressed. The assistant engineer didn't seem to know much about it, and I'd love to understand this mic a bit better. I understand there are some similarities to a U87, in that is it based around a K67 capsule, but also some differences.

Sorry, I'm not into the uber-technical stuff with mics too much, I just know that I really love the U77 I own.

Klaus Heyne and David Satz can give you alle the info you need, I guess:
What is the Neumann U77 ?

Wrong.

It's not the predecessor, in fact both the U87 and the U77 where saled at the same time period.

The U77 has a different electronic, transformerless T12 powered.
