Thread Starter | Looking for high end tom mics... I'm ove 421's...r
So far I'm considering the Neumann TLM103 or the Gefell M930 for toms. I' d like the Josephson's too. Any other suggestions for high end tom mics?

AKG c12s, on both the top and the bottom of the drum. Set them to 2 clicks counter-clockwise of cardiod. None of that VR crap, either. You said "high end." U87s are kinda sweet as tom mics, as long as the drum sounds perfect... Try out some Senn. 604s. Not "high end" by any means, but they kinda rock for toms. Beta 98s are cool, too... not the most reliable, though... |

U87s don't suck either...if you trust the drummer.

Now that's intense... When the mic is worth more than the entire drumkit, I don't know..that's kind of pushing it. just kidding.

I LOVE U87's on toms. It is a great sound. If you are limited on U87s and the drummer has two toms next to each other, put the mic in Figure 8 and place it right in between the two toms. Works great 90% of the time. U87 can be cool on snare as well. Of course, you have to trust your drummer.

I just used the BLUE Dragonfly Deluxe's on the Toms for this recent recording. I really like how they came out. Take a listen. Rob |
