Do the 1073 have enough gain for it?

thanks,

Yes to all. My AML's are ALWAYS on my mix buss. No problem with gain.

Can a clone sound better than the original?
Sure it can...but that's a subjective thing, and what sounds better to you may not sound better to me. And in the case of something like this, where the goal is to make something that's as close to the original as possible, sounding "better" than the original is not a good thing.

I guess the question is "can a clone sound more like the original than the original?"...

I know what you are saying but when I set out to make a clone of the 1084 EQ although I wanted to retain the audio flavor I also wanted to reduce the noise floor. By careful placement and proper grounding I succeeded. I've had comments from owners of original (or familiar with) 1084 using the EZ1084EQ and that was one of the things they were most happy about (less noise). The audio signature was very close and every single user so far has had nothing but praise for what it does.

But I do agree if one sets out to make a clone then we should try and get as close as possible. Bear in mind that even if you take several original 1084 EQs they will all sound a bit different too.

Cheers

Jim

The reason I asked is because for several of us, the AML's are freakishly close to the originals, and I'm curious how they sound next to the Heritage.
You had the chance to compare the two yet?

Nope. But I'm completely happy with my choice.

Sweetwater just started carrying these. Whats the deal with the pic with the cards(yellow) sitting there, are those interchangeable parts or something?

That picture shows the cards you'll find inside the module, the same exact ones you'll find in the regular size module, and fully compatible with a vintage one.
