Go transitor.

Here in the U.S., transparency is preferred for commercials and documentary vocals. The 610 is colored and has restricted headroom, but the Red7 is relatively transparent. So, later when you have to edit in replacement vocals the new lines match tone with the old ones more easily.

I owned a pair of Red 7s for about 10 years, so I know them pretty well. I also own an LA-610 MKI.

I would not call the Red 7s transparent. I heard a (dare I say?) tube-like roundness (albeit different from the LA-610). Very smooth and euphonic. To my ears, the LA-610 sounds a bit more aggressive. The Variable impedance is great, and can make a dramatic difference.

I like them both, but I sold the Red 7s and (given their cost) would not replace them.

What mics will you be pairing them with?

The UA 610mkII has a sound with lot of color and lots of low end
Distortion can be reached easily, more VINTAGE style.

The focusrite Red 7 has detailed warm sound, more NEVE style
And therefore more versatile

- Neumann U87ai is THE standart here - a must have for VO recording...(of course other mic can do the job..Gefell..?)
- if you are looking for a recording channel (easy...) the Red7 is very good - also had good results with Avalon 737 sp...
- i now work with Neve 1073dpa + 33609 comp (i never eq the way in...), but that's another budget...
