Anyone heard the Wunder CM67 ???

It has been quiet about this mic. I assume that not a lot of them were made. I am curious of anyone's comments on it that has used one. I am not so much interested as to whether it is a U67 clone, so much as to whether it is a great mic.

later edit: I see there is another thread about this mic. Maybe this new thread will increase the chances that someone will respond that has actually used the mic.

Greg Heimbecker. He has #2 & #3. He's on these separate threads:

Thank you. I checked the threads. I am not sure Greg has a post where he tried the mics on vocals. I would be curious of his comparison with other mics on vocals. Also, overheads - since he has a pair.

I had one for 3 days.

I A/Bed it against a UMT70S on overheads, acoustic guitar, and vocals.

As compared to the UMT70S, I found it to be scooped in the midrange and exaggerated in the high end.

Considering the CM67 cost 2x the UMT70S, I expected to prefer it on at least one source. I did not.

Thanks for your post. More high end than a UMT70s! I do think those UMT70s mics are under-rated though. But the CM67 should have knocked it out on something. Interesting. Maybe others will chime in.

it interests me that the grill is of an M49/M50 spacing rather than the finer mesh of the original 67/87 - seems a bit strange to me?

+1 to that. Have been using the 2247 LE for some time and I'm surprised how good it sounds considering the lack of midrange freqs.

We're in Austin (as is Wunder) and are supposed to have a shootout of the CM67 and other mics soon, I'll post comments if/when this happens.

Yeah - I'd love to hear how it compares to a current Neumann 87 to see if it retains that type of midrange with more pleasant top and bottom.

I was reading on Wunder's site and wasn't clear if they were using an actual Neumann K67 cap or their own version of it.
Anyone know where the cap is being made?

I can not comment on the exact comparison you did.

However I own a CM7GT-M7 and owned a UM70 for a number of years. They were similar and both had a great tone, and nice mids, but certainly not as present in the mids as say, a U87, or U67. Surprising that you found the wunder 67 scooped. Seems to be the opposite of my experience with a real 67. I preferred the sound of my Wunder slightly to the Gefell I owned, and have just sold the Gefell it to fund another mic purchase. Gefell was a fantastic mic though. Hard to let it go.

Another comment. I had worked with a world class U67 at one point and found, it would sound a bit crispy up top unless you mic'd fairly close for vocals.

With my CM7GT i could for instance mic someone at 1ft away or farther at times. With the U67 which I believe to be a great condition one, I had to get vocalists in under 8" to get a balanced tone. Sounded amazing when I did though.

That doesn't sound like a stock U67 at all.
More like it had filters removed.

Also, you normally lose high end with distance, not the other way round.
I must add that the U67 does have some compensation for proximity effect, so at a distance it could sound relatively light or thin on the bottom, which might make it seem trebly. (?)

Hmmm.........
