Need advice on studio power conditioners

Im curious about what sort of power conditioners professional studios use.

Which ones would you recommend to get that clean power and lower floor noise in recordings. I've done everything I could but RFI/EMI are getting in the way too much. Something to be dealt with ASAP.

Thanx

I'm using a Furman IT reference (balanced power) and couldn't be happier - super low noise floor.

I fear a power conditioner may do nothing for you. At most many are glorified power strips IMO. If you really need one, believe it or not but the monster ones have waaaay more features than the furmans.

I've looked it up but I couldn't find any of them in Australia...we do have the furman IT but it's too expensive... I'll keep looking.

It might have changed now but the last time I checked the Monster stuff wasn't available in 230v which was also true for some of the other brands - one of the main reasons I chose the Furman. Another was that it was one of the cheapest balanced power units available - I don't think you'll find much better value if you're serious about this. On the other hand, you may just need to get a good electrician in, but that could turn out expensive too...

Just found a guy selling a couple of units at a very reasonable price in Australia!

You could add some more basic filtering to these for a pretty decent system.

Solid I've checked it out, looks pretty vintage and staunch. I've pm the guy... Hopefully he gets back to me. Otherwise I'll have to get a furman. Does Monster Pro 3600 PowerCenter have a 220-240 voltage selector on it ?

Yes, unfortunately the term "power conditioner" is a very general term. Inexpensive ones usually contain only MOVs for transient voltage surge suppression and maybe some RF and noise filtering, which may not be sufficient. However, a power conditioner might also include more complex power quality control functions such as voltage regulation and an isolation transformer. This confusion comes up so often, there probably should be a sticky on it.

Another option:

Audio Isolation Transformer

Just ordered this a couple of days ago after moderate research:

Tripp Lite LCR2400 Line Conditioner / AVR System
Model: LCR2400

A friend I work with (MS in EE) vouched for this brand. Seems to be 'best value' - include 'voltage regulation'.

Good luck!
