Word Clock daisy chain with several devices - Lynx, Hedd, Lavry

Hello Word Clock Guru's !

I am trying to synchronize multiple AD/DA and would appreciate your advice.

I work with PT10 with 2 Lynx AES16e pcie card + 1 Aurora 16VT + 1 Lavry blue 8 AD + 1 Hedd + 2 Lynx cable CBL-AES1604 + 2 Lynx cable CBL-AES1605

I want to synchronize in WC rather than AES without T-BNC adaptator/splitter or invest in a word clock D/A.

Here is my setup for now :

Lynx AES16e pcie 1 : Hedd on port A & Lavry on port B connected with 2 x CBL-AES1604 cable
Lynx AES16e pcie 2 : Aurora 16VT connected with 2 x CBL-AES1605 cable on port A & B

WORD CLOCK :

> Hedd MASTER CLOCK 96kHz output > daisy chain AES16e port A with CBL-AES1604 BNC cable
> AES16e port B with BNC out on the CBL-AES1604 cable daisy chain > Lavry CLOCK IN
> Aurora 16VT on port A & B of the second AES16e // Lavry CLOCK OUT > Aurora 16VT CLOCK IN >> End of the path // Aurora got internal termination I think.

Hardware : Aurora set to External / Lavry red clock light ok / Hedd on 24 bits AD process

Software (Lynx Mixer) : First window of the first AES16e I put External on preferred clock source // Second window for the second AES16e I put Header (between the two AES16e I set the CBL-ICC cable)

On the Lynx Mixer software with these settings the two AES16e aren't locked.

For this first step have you got any ideas about something incorrectly done ?

I made some mistakes for sure and I wanted to understand properly before I put everything in the trash and works only on my 24 2" !

Thanks for your help and feedbacks, Matteo

First for the amount of money you have invested in your converters/ interfaces you should have just gotten on the phone with any of their service guys (Hedd-Lavry-Lynx) to give you step by step instructions. So in your setup you have two converters, one of which is Master (your best A/D converter) going into the first Lynx interface card and your third converter going into the second Lynx interface card. Now here is how to set it up that way. Run a BNC cable with T from your Master converter word clock out (your best A/D converter) to the wordclock in on your second converter that will attach to the first Lynx card. ONLY attach the BNC cable on the first Lynx interface's cable to the wordclock out of that second converter (no direct BNC cable hookup between your master converter and the first Lynx interface card). From the BNC T connector attached to your second converter's word clock in, run a cable to your third converter's wordclock in. From your third converter's wordclock out attach the second Lynx interface cable's BNC. So it looks like this in total, Master converter WC out to T'ed second converter WC in to third converter WC in, then also second converter WC out to first Lynx card WC in, then also third converter WC out to second Lynx card WC in. The second Lynx card will be the last in this chain and thus have it's terminator set, all others terminator off and all but Master in slave mode. That should get both of the Lynx cards slaved to the same Master clock. Additionally check the software settings for the Lynx cards, some interfaces need wordclock speed set.

Bassmankr pretty much hit it but, let me add this time and time again i find using t connectors and terminators yeild better results ! plus its cheaper than a new clock!

Hello Bassmankr,

I would really like to thank you for your help and your clear explanations.

All my devices are now locked in word clock and happy !

Here is my WC path :

Hedd "master" clock out bnc cable with T-BNC connected to word clock in Lavry
Word clock out Lavry connected to the first Lynx AES16e interface port A BNC
BNC T cable attached to Lavry word clock in connected to Lynx Aurora word clock in
Word clock out Lynx Aurora connected to first AES16e interface port B BNC cable = not sure for now but it works

Lynx Mixer first AES16e set to External
Lynx Mixer second AES16 set to Header

To answer you I have not purchased cards at the same time but over a year and a half. I synced all my devices with AES while before buying my second AES16e interface. My english is very bad, on the phone is worst.

Thank you again, all the best, M
