a question about monitor mixing while tracking in PTHD

alrighty,

(btw, i've had to stop saying "howd y" because it kept putting a smilie and damn it i don't want to use those things.)

anyway.

i've gotten very used to and very fond of RME TotalMix, which i use in conjunction with the Furman HDS-6 headphone monitoring system to put together (nigh-on) zero latency monitor mixes freely from any combination of inputs on any combination of outputs, ie a stereo drums mix of at least 8 inputs, etc.

now my question is, is this kind of thing easily done in PTHD, or would it involve using sends, introducing latency, etc.?

i just haven't quite gotten my head around it for whatever reason (a part of this is that the PT rigs i have worked on have all had somewhat erratic latency/performance/routing "quirks", believe it or not.)

regards,

richie.

perhaps you were using LE rigs?

in PTHD this is very easy to do and has been for 8-10 years. this is what it was built to do!! simply make pre fader aux sends and assign them to hardware outs and connect them to the headphone system. got 8 drum tracks? assign them to the same stereo out, create a blend on the auxes (easier with a control surface set to "flip") and the other tracks set to individual outs and allow the mix to be done on the Furman. hope this helps.

yeah man thanks, thats exactly what i thought was the standard procedure, but the last time i tried that on an HD rig it did all kinds of funky latency things which surprised the hell out of me. i knew this was a ridiculous question but it was just nagging away at me to get someone to spell it out since that freaky happeneing.

and yes, i am positive it was an HD rig.

bloody computers / protools / microchips.

i like big fat chips.

richie.

Maybe you had some plug ins on tracks and delay compensation turned on??
