Please your thoughts on this: Already have eq from my toft console and apis 560 and 550a Already have pair of distressors elx-8, 1176 and drawmwer1968. Should I bought massive passive and manley vari mu ( or tube tech) or hammer and nail from a designs saving usd 2000? I have the money but of course saving usd 2000 is good. Pop, rock and mainly jazz. Tracking and mixing, not mastering now. Thanks, John |

If I were you I would consider buying the Massive and VariMu second hand. I have had my Massive and Mu for 15 years and the tubes are still fine. I had my technician look at them recently and he told me the units are working to their specifications and not to replace the tubes (even though I have a box full of replacement tubes). Manley gear is very well made. I have the Hammer EQ but not the Nail. It is a very good broad stokes EQ but not as flexible as the Massive Passive which is in a higher realm. |
