Thread Starter | This may sound crazy... DBX 118! I know you can find them and if you get a good line leveler, they give you this cool retro compression '70's sound. Great on guitars, me on a Gibson 335 Vox AC30 DBX 118...ohhh la la. I even heard that Oasis used them on their lst album...just thought I'd pass along a good new secret weapon. -a DIRTY HALO www.dirtyhalo.com |

Andrews - thanks! thumbsup I was looking around for comments on the 118 some weeks back. Have since scored one at a very good price (it was covered in filth and dust and took some loving care) and having spent a week with it now, I love it! It's hard to make it sound bad. One thing - I thought they were meant to be noisy, hissy units, but this one is pretty quiet. Oh, and it's been modded for TRS jacks, a bit of a bonus! Cheers, b.

Shhhhhh! Quiet over here. Lest the prices start to get bumped up ![]() Killer unit. I personally like the 118 the best out of that series. Step 1: Insert on room mics. Step 2: Fall in love.

I use 117. The same thing, but only 2:1 compression/expander ratio. Still killer, if you want to bring some '70ties taste. Expander is great if you have a dead drum loop!!

I was surprised, I have to say. The dbx stuff I've come across before (mainly the newer stuff) was definitely not to my taste. I didn't like the 163 compressor much, either. The 118 came with a 100 subharmonic boom box (in the same style, wooden panels etc), but the jury's out on that... don't know how useful it is yet.
