I should have one within a week (possibly two) that will go to Sound On Sound for review.

Just to say I have a demo CMV in the UK now - Gefell sent a second unit to Sound On Sound.
I will have it at the SoundPRO 2012 exhibition at Pinewood Studios on the 18th September and it will be available to try out if needed.

Georg Neumann GmbH was only the post-war version, now owned by Sennheiser.
Oh - and Gefell did clear using the Gefell logo in the Diamond with Neumann-Berlin before they used it, as the two companies do talk to each other and get on well.

I think Microtech Gefell should stick with the name Neumann-Gefell, instead of Microtech Gefell, as Gefell is a city name and not really trademarkable.

Of course, Ideally, I would love to see Gefell buy the Neumann division from Sennheiser and reunite it all into one powerhouse company!

I've found these polar responses in the Mictotech Gefell brochure for their 'new' old microphone and this is one of the reasons I don't like vintage capsule designs.
Why is this called a cardioid? The capsule is a just a bit more directional than a wide cardioid in the lower frequency area and above 1kHz it shows pattern mix-up.
I know, Microtech Gefell can do it much better today - but they wanted to be compatible and match the old imperfect capsules.
If you place this microphone, be aware of its exotic directional characteristics and listen carefully to the coloration you will get.
(btw, I have a rarely used UM70s by myself and I think it looks pretty similar :-) )

You are referring to the 180° response but the 90° one is closer to -6 dB cardioid than to the -4 dB wide cardioid.

...I dont want to spoil the party - I just see microphones less emotional. They are just tools following the laws of physics. The music should give you the emotion, not the gear ...I mean -just listen to the coloration of the sound and if this is what you want, it is ok :-)

It sounds "finished"

Gefell redesigned the amp with another tube, different specs and quite different frequency response, I'd say it's fair to consider it an updated remake.

Wouldn't it be great if Neumann-Gefell could reissues the U47/48 as a U74? And the M49 as the M94? After all, they did have something to do with those microphones too!! |

One of my faaavorite aspects of the original CMV563's is the off axis response. Gorgeous room sounds and bleed...

| I agree. I have a real u47 among dozens of other great microphones, and the CMV is my girl. Love. So good on vocals, mono room, clean electrics. If you want to EQ the top end a touch, just rotate the mic. Never ugly or weird, just different.

I believe I saw information about Gefell changed pvc material of the capsules since a little time and the sound would be less good than before, different from the original, the cmv should be concerned as it's a m7? I think some um92s users experienced that
