Thread Starter | Studer 169 or Neve 8816
Hi all I wonder if you could help with some wisdom - I am recording acoustic albums, happy to mix down to 10/12 tracks if necessary. I am about to get a Studer 169 if I manage to sell some gear today - but I last night was reading all the stuff on here about summing. Anyone have any ideas what will give me a 'better mix' and sound at the end of it. Better Stereo width and so on...? Not worried about pres as I have some nice Neve and tube tech pres. Just wanted to know your thoughts on whether you think I should go ahead with the Studer mixer, or look at one of these summing boxes eg the Neve 8816? Thanks a lot for any help, really appreciate it. Chris |

You can find many posts on GS. If you prefer clean Folcrom or Mixdream will serve you really well. For more character you can try Nicerizer 8 or 16. I dare to say that sonically 8816 is not pleasing my ears better than any of above (having in mind expectations), quite a contrary. Name on the box means almost nothing nowdays. |

Thanks for your advice... I'm going for the Studer... The whole summing thing has me a little unconvinced. All the best Chris |
