Eats:
gotta hit Primanti Bros - try the oiginal one down the strip or one of other "City" Primanti's. Hit it afer a night out on the town or just walk over after spending some time at whickey dicks or the electric banana - I think the names have changed from when I was there last, but someone will tune you in.
******//www.primantibros.com mmm, I'm drooling remembering those late night sandwiches - open 24hrs
Also, if you have a car you can hit The O to get some of their famous fries. Mmmmm double fried french fries. If you go, don't order a large unless you have a family of 4 with you. That place got me thru my college days at Carnegie Mellon and U o Pitt. Any place that sells 35,000 lbs of fries a week is something you have to try once. closes at like 4 or 5 am

Being a long time Pittsburgher I know this is sacrilege but... Primanti Bros is WAY over rated, just my take. The O is better but just don't go to the bathroom, at least untill the hose it out for the night (I am not kidding, they hose out the bathroom to clean... yes it is still better in my eyes than Primanti Bros)

Try Mad Mex in Oakland by Pitt campus! Good... no GREAT food and a cool vibe. You might also want to check out the South Side, lots of cool little places to eat and hang.

Where are you going to be staying / working? There are plenly of places on both ends of town.

Ditto the South Side; no more Electric Banana or Whisky Dicks - no more Graffitti, either.

Primanti's is over-rated, but getting meat, slaw and fries on the sandwich is pretty cool to some people (the fries and slaw are good by themselves, too). The "O" is legendary, but not really that great, but the fries - fried in peanut oil - are the shit.

Lots of good Indian restaurants in Oakland, but I highly recommend 'Sitar' in Highland Park.

Oh yeah, Sitar is great! Good call.

Also if you are looking for great food but maybe not high action you should check out Squirrel Hill. There are something like 20 or 30 restaurants in a 3 or 4 mile section of town and probably some of the best places to eat in the whole area. Check out The Lemongrass for great Thai food. thumbsup

+1 on the Primanti's Bros... the one located in the Strip District ...

Go with the Pastrami and Cheese....

Word of caution..

Dont ask for any substitutions on the menu..

It's all about Carson Street.

A place called "Thai me up" a few blocks down from Tom' diner is great.
