| Well....... one logical answer might be because no one on this planet has heard it yet!! oh, and unless I missed the posting on this site, I don't think anyone has had theirs delivered yet (even after prepaying for the unit months ago). BUT, all that being said, how could something so cool looking not sound great ![]()

| Hey..... They told me it would be finished! Lindsay said it would be ready to rock, and I'll wait another month if I have too, then I can buy more gear! I ordered it two months ago. Mike said it was on the money! Do you think he would put his good name on the line for crappy hardware? ![]() |

| don't hold your breath Well, I ordered mine back in October. I'm sure it will sound fantastic. Peter's stuff is top notch. I have the GAMA8 and it is a fantastic sounding piece of gear. All I can say is, don't hold your breath. If you throw down for this now, don't expect to have anytime soon, no matter WHAT Lindsay says. Trust me. It will be brilliant, but don't expect this to just ship right out like a ...a ....737, or something. He's still settling the design.

| No..Don't hold your breath I started some serious compressor shopping in June of '05 and ever since I first heard about it and saw the initial CAD rendering, I was blown away by the concept and design..but i'm not sure I was prepared to wait 10 months to even hear the thing All's I know is the initial design has changed quite a bit since then..for the better I'm absolutely sure. From my discussions with Pete,It's a very ambitious, complex unit. But we're all still very patiently waiting ..I've been real close to bailing out a couple times ,but I think it will be worth the wait. But unfortuneatly,Even if you ordered one today or even two month's ago... he still has to build and ship all the units that have been on order since October's 05' AES[6 plus months ago] So yes ...despite what Lindsay tells you, just be prepared to wait. ![]() |

| Wow. First it was the Crane Song Egret, now this. I guess they do like car companies when they engineer stuff. Seemingly, great wine takes time , or at least that's what my Mom used to say! Audio companies seem to develop a concept, then the prototype, then hopefully generate substantial interest in the project, and if feedback and intrerest are ample enough, they develop and manufacture the product. You know the SHC inspires me visually, and I want to use it on a project right now while I have the feeling, but I guess I will have to wait. I was thinking about a couple of distressors at first, but when I saw what it looked like and all it was supposed to do, and I was sold on it immediately. I have talked to a few people that have heard it, and I trust their judgement, but they work for the company! Good things come to those who wait I guess, but there is nothing worse than a customer who is expecting something, and it's not delivered on time. Well.... patience is a virtue. What's a slut to do? |

Preachin' to the choir my friend I've had about 10 projects since last summer I wanted to use it on! It's really forced me to take a good hard look at the current state of the "Boutique" market, Lots of hype, lots of waiting...Lots of false promises. and sometimes after the wait, BIG dissapointment.. or in many cases, you're a guinea pig for a product that was never ready for release . ...Believe me, I've been there, in the WORST possible way ..Or in the opposite case like the Distressor..it comes out ,works great, and becomes an instant classic Guy's like Dave Derr or Geoff Daking ,,really do their homework and keep the hype to a minimum. and it shows in the various products upon their release' I have no doubts about the Shadow Hills stuff.. It's just that the AES hype kinda created a monster of an expectation for the products too early. I don't envy these guys at all,It's a tough business . I'm really getting back into my old[vintage] gear latety at least I know the designs[Pultec,Urei,Neve,Neumann..etc] have proven themselves over many, many years .. it works well and I know what to expect if it indeed fails..not many surprises. ![]() | |

I suggested last summer to Peter that SH not roll out so much as AES last fall, but he's a visionary - not a practical man. He was excited to share, and was not thinking in terms of what might happen. And it has happened as I feared. Excitement, orders, changes, evolution of design, new company expansion beyond expectations or possibility to deliver. And for now something is lost. Yet the "hype" is not his doing, it's all of us ... SH shouldn't be blamed. He wanted to show off the whole collection, and did so, while many of them were still in process. Everyone knew they were in process, so there we are. Redevelopment takes time ... lots of it. In his defense, he has one shot to make a 'final' and as any artist knows, it's hard to let a thing go and say it's done ... but if there's talent involved - and vision ... it's always worth the wait for the listener, viewer, user. ATR Service has been a month away from delivering tape for about the same amount of time as SH but few call it hype. There was no AES roll out, and there is not such a market for tape as for a badass optical/VCA compressor with 3 tranny options. I dont want one yet enough to pay up ... but I want to hear it ... and then who knows! If you have the $ sitting around I'd go for it, you can always sell it ... but I doubt you'll want to. Peter is new to making gear, but not new to using it and knowing what's good. He's got ears and style, it's going to rock.

| I agree with most of what you say Brian, but I also think that it's unfair of manufacturers to demand prepayment so far in advance without being willing to commit to a delivery date that is set in stone....and by following this practice they are making a rod for their own backs. Let's face it, customers would be a lot more relaxed about this sort of thing were it not for the fact that in many cases they've already stumped up in full. IMO it would be more reasonable for manufacturers to take say 10% as a deposit until/unless they're in a position to be able to name a firm delivery date. Cheers, Vari-Mu |

And in this case I believe (and have zero fact) that Vintage King made the rules, and that Peter has never been strapped for money. Peter has always told me he wants nothing to do with the business side ... he's a designer, period. His thing is "I only have one chance to make it perfect" and his mind has been working faster than the worldly side could keep up with.

| If you leave CC as deposite on pre-order, can't you just call the CC issuing bank and cancel that transaction? If enough people cancel their pre order, SH may seriously talk about when it will ship. |

| Mike is the man. The Shadow Hills better be amazing considering the amount of time they are spending "fine tuning" it. It is not holding me up, so I am fine waiting. But man, it has been sooooo long. Between the timeframe and the false delivery adtes, that is where my problem lies. |
