Should i sell my great river mp-2nv for 500 series?

I'm thinking about selling my Great River MP-2NV Dual Channel Mic Pre and getting an API Lunchbox, two AEA RPQ 500 ribbon mic pre's (for my R84 mics for vocals), Great River 32EQ processors (x2), API 512c mic pre's. Should I go ahead and invest in 500 series stuff and depart with my Great River Pre rack version? I have to get the AEA RPQ 500's my ribbon mics need lots of gain without all the hiss that I get from the GR MP-2NV also I wanted to add to the signal two (since I am doing stereo mic'ing with two AEA R84 ribbon mics) Great River 32EQ processors as well as maybe two API 512c mic pre's. I found a deal where if I order 4 500 series modules I get the API Lunchbox (6 slot version) free. I'd love to keep my GR MP-2NV pre but I really don't need it in all honesty.

CH. 1/2 - AEA RPQ Pre (x2) > Great River 32EQ (x2) > R84 mics > Vocals

CH. 3/4 - Electronic Drum Set (straight to my breakout cable)

CH. 5 - single ch. pre > (maybe EQ) > electric guitar

Ch. 6 - GT Electronics Bass Tube Pre > Bass Guitar

CH's 7-16 = nothing as of now

This will be with PT HD 10 Native (with UAD DSP Power) on an Avid HD 16 I/O with a D-Box for summing and monitoring.

I say go 500 series if you need, but don't sell the GR just because it gives you
hiss in one or two scenarios. ...unless you need the money from the sale
desperately to purchase the new stuff. In these money crunched times, I've
noticed they don't sell for what they should sell for used.
I think you would most likely take a painful hit selling the GR.

The Great River is insanely useful on so many things, I think you would regret
losing it later on down the line. Awesome as a tone box on pre-recorded
material at the very least. And obviously a great mic amp.

To be honest, I like my A Designs EM modules more. Strictly tonally speaking...
I thought about selling my GR to feed my 500 rack, but I just knew I'd regret
it. The sound is a bit polite for my tastes, but sometimes that is good. It's
very "nice". Very lush and wide. My A Designs stuff hits harder.
It's good to have both...!

The GR is just such a useful, no brainer piece of equipment.
Tons of control and simple features. Metering!
It's really tough to get something "bad" out of it.
I use it when I just don't have time to audition other stuff and search for the perfect chain.
Which is very often...

I have a 10 space 500 rack right next to my GR.
That's potentially 12 mic amps in 4 rack spaces!
The racked GR is the way to go IMO... extra options on the I/O, and your'e
not burning up too much space in a 500 rack or a lunchbox.

Think twice before selling that GR, the racked version is pretty swank and
you already have it!

IMO, YMMV and all that ---

This reads to me like you're doing something amazingly wrong - unless you're trying to record roach farts from a 4 meter distance with a ribbon mic you really shouldn't need more than 60db of gain... and you should be getting nearly "hiss free" operation from the MP-2NV at 60db of gain without a struggle.

You will lose the capability of accessing the insert points in the MP-2NV if you go to the 500-NV. I don't know if you use them at all... but in my world I have found the insert points absolutely invaluable!!! Say for example you do get a lunchbox and do add the GR 32EQ... by having the insert point available you will then have the option of returning that EQ to the MP-2NV and getting the sound of its transformer based output or getting the sound of the 32EQ's output section... its a matter of versatility.

Versatility might not be a big deal to you... it is to me which is why I mentioned it... but it might not be to you. I know nothing of the way you work nor your sense of aesthetic... meaning you should take my ramblings as something to maybe think about... not as any form of a directive.

Peace

The MP-500 is my ribbon goto. I don't have any issues with hiss on that pre when I've got it almost completely wide open. The MP2NV should be great with ribbons as it should be the same pre with the additional features.
