| Found a pair of Genelec S30D's - Question?
I'm not experienced with regard to speakers/monitors. I do know that my mentor has a pair of Genelec S30C's and I FELL IN LOVE with them. He was playing back some of his work, my work, some film soundtracks, country, gospel - and I felt it was PERFECTION - truthful, non-fatiguing, 3-dimensional, enjoyable to listen to, accurate, transparent, etc;, etc; So, I've found a pair and ready to drop HARD-earned cash, now I'm wondering if I should be doing some more listening before I drop the cash (where, I don't know which is why I'm hitting up Gearslutz) for those who are experienced.
Here's my question - where would the Genelec S30D's fit into - with WHAT group for comparison - KH/Geithien/Adams/Barefoot/BW Matrix/Twins - etc; It "seems" to me that the KH get the most love with the only blast being db's. My REFERENCE is the S30's - so with those who KNOW THE S30's - where do they stack up against the KH300/410; 906/944 (I hope I'm getting these model numbers right). My anxiousness is just getting to me and I'm trying to mentally figure out reading all these threads WHAT should I be listening to. Yes, I know everyone is going to say - budget, treated room, etc;. Let's just throw budget and room to the side as factors - are the Genelecs S30D's the king of the hill here (I'm not convinced "new" means "better") or should I really park my butt in front of KH/Geithein/Adams, etc;??? The Genelecs have 120W per and is plenty loud enough for me.
Thank you for participating in such a subjective post and allowing my inexperience to fly without being laughed at (you're not laughing are you?). I really want to learn and make a wise purchase. Since my home studio (I do location classical music recording) is more home studio than recording studio, I DO want a monitor that is suitable to master on as well as just sit back, lay on the couch and enjoy all kinds of music on it. And at the end of the day I want to KNOW that I have some monitors that are about the best there is (I also don't believe big is better). With all that being said - it seems that KH 300 and 410 are getting the most love with the 410 blowing away the 300s, yet, I've heard that the Geithein - if you own them - you won't look back with envy. I would like a 3-way monitor. I find it hard to believe that a 2-way would really be comparable (could be wrong) and I'm anti sub - I don't want to do that.
Where do the S30's fit in the class of new speakers?
