Arrow Skid Row at WireWorld

Hey guys

We are starting the new Skid Row album project tomorrow at WireWorld. Just got back from pre-production in Atlanta and it looks like it's going to be a great record.

I will keep you "posted" here...

Cooldeal... will you let us know which mics Sebastian prefers, and through what kind of a vocal chain? That would be neat...

Uhm, Baz is not in the band anymore (for a while now). The singer is Jonny Solinger and he kicks total ass, great guy too.

Yes, so far every Skidz album I've done was tons of fun, and the guys are not any less crazy now...

Samples

I sure hope you can post samples of the kit like you did for Orge Tones. Great sounding record BTW.

Outstanding Michael!

Sounds like it's gonna be fun. So what was the preproduction like (for a big time band like that, I've always wondered)? I mean like were there any rough recordings, or did you guys just practice and work on arrangements?

Both. They send me 11 of the 12 songs we are going to be recording. Rachel did pretty good demos in his studio. I worked on the arrangements here at home before I drove down there and we went through it song by song in their rehearsal room. Song #12 is a bit more of a spontaneous piece and we left most of it to when we are actually recording. We were done with the arrangements on Friday and we used Saturday to run through all the songs twice.

At this point drums, bass and basic RGTR are rehearsed to the point where they can play it without having to think about it and all vocal meloies are worked out. The drummer gets here today and we set up drums and get basic tones, pick the right drums, heads etc. The band comes up tomorrow. They get settled into the appartment and we get the rest of the sounds for tracking. Actual tracking starts on Wednesday.

I was on tour with Skid Row, and Sleez Beez.

Bas started a fight on the Beez bus, and Butch *the driver* got half way back through the front lounge before we could get to the steering wheel!

80mph. Heeelooooooo Kentucky!

I enjoyed the old days, surely.

OK, today we got drumsounds. I'll post some pictures tomorrow (forgot the camera at the studio).

So, here is a snippet of the room mic for the drum setup.

Contest: whomever can tell me which mic was used to record the attached MP3, wins a free seat in my next workshop. This one is not easy and the answer might surprise you!

You have to hurry. I'll post a picture of the mic tomorrow night.

Which mic could it be??? Sounds kind of like a dirty mic to me.

I'm tired so I'm going to say Oktava MK219 and call it a night.

Since you said the answer would be 'suprising' and I'd use a cheap mic to get that kind of sound I'm gonna say it's something REALLY stupidly expensive...

Like an Elux 251 or E47.

Micheal ~ (happy birthday BTW!) what label is Skid Row on these days?

My first guess is the mic is a Radio Shack something or other.

My second guess is the drummer has been listening to old James Brown records lately.

Way cool on both counts (providing both counts are true).
