A couple from my place

A real ghetto rehearsal room setup for my band Cleaverhook using a bunch of cheap mics. :p

And probably the simplest kit we've ever had to mic up for a proper session. That of the drummer from Dead Spex

Here's a video that Dicky Spears (the engineer at Squid Hell) took of the drum setup for a session my band did there. I'll see if I can dig up a picture that doesn't move...

Could anyone explain the micing (mics used and technique - except for the obvious RE-20) in the pic above?

Thx,

This is the latest session at my place. Tama royalstar toms, Paiste Sound Formula Cymbals and a Gretsch kick. Kind of a decca tree inspired room mic thing.

Recent session, two mic setups on a single kit because I was doing a few projects requiring different sounds over a three day span...a few mic changes between the two. The studio is Mad Oak in Brighton, MA.

Yes.. But what lens was on that camera..? And what was the settings on the camera..?

The camera alone doesn't produce shots like that..

Local band (Eric Tepe Project) taking it to the next level. Brian Kelly (ex Over the Rhine) brought in his kickin' DW kit with the 24". Just loved it.

Less hard reflections, more diffusion ;-)
Our room is pretty big (appr. 1000sqf) so we have a few different sounding options for drums. This corner sounds rather direct blended with pleasant small roomy but not too obvious reflections. Very usable sound for many projects.

Phasing? Not really, no. The diffusers do their job quite well. It has it's advantages over absorbers.

Doing some weird "West African improvisational art rock" this week - great music! All drums mics hit the Quad Eight desk for pre's.
